internet hosting, packets-per-second, insanity
I've had problems hosing a V8 supercars server on my 1.5Mb adsl link.
The problem is the insane number of UDP packets per second that the game tries to send & receive. With 6 players (me hosting and 5 remote clients) NetGraph reports 200 pps outgoing and 100pps inbound. This is at the limit of my adsl modem, and beyond anything that is reasonable.
These are tiny packets, so the bandwidth isn't the problem. There's just too many of the little buggers.
The way I see it, 15 position updates per second ought to be more than enough for accurate play, so for 6 players I _should_ be sending & receiving only 90 pps - a much more reasonable number.
Come on Codemasters. The internet code in this game needs some serious attention.
Please Fix.
