don't sweat it. at some point it appears they booted any non-brits (at least far foreignors) . I was racing with them and the only lag I saw was a guy named appletiger, whatever.

It would've been nice of them to at least give a message to me or a reason other than just eliminating my account with no warning or notice. Most of em are good folks. At the time i think i was leading the enduro league (only 3 races in) and had the quickest time at all of the time trial league standings. Whatever.

I know they had a number of Scots on there so why they didn't let you register who knows? It was the first and probably last league i'll waste my time with though.

CML stands for "Clio masters league" or something on that lines. Of what i know, they are a bunch of friends enjoying racing. I personally don't know why they booted both of you out.

But it seems to dingulbury that i have found that americans can't see their own lag. Us in europe we see it, it comes backwards and forwards and when trying to overtake we get hit at the front or lifted in the air. A classic example, i was behind someone about 1-2secs i tried to get in their slipstream and lag hit me from behind then in front and then behind for about 5secs, this completly smashed my car.

What i don't get is some americans have loads of lag and others don't have any. It must be their connection and i say to all americans get a faster connection, it helps a lot for us europeans

yeah, i hate the lag. No europeans lag much to me, but, apparently, I lag like nothing else. Dont know why, just probably because of the atlantic connection....

Yeh, that's what might be causing it. You also don't get a fantastic servive of broadband like i've seen in adverts it says "Super high-speed" but in the small print it says "Upstream 512k, downstream 256k" a quite slow connection considering it supposed to be "High-speed".

It also could be the time taken from your PS2 to the server in Europe. Travelling all that way must have some effect on the speed sent back.

Default Lag

I think at least part of the problem seems to lie in the upload speed of our connections in North America. The UK ISPs (for example) seem to have an eye to online gaming unlike North American ISPs. So a UK "1 Meg" connection is a 1 Meg upload / 1 Meg download speed (I believe) whereas here in North America, we seem to get awesome download but crap upload usually. My old connection was good enough for TRD2 but as soon as TRD3 came out, I often had lag issues with my UK mates. So I upgraded my connection and got my upload to around 1 Meg when before it was around 384 kbps (iirc). Now, my lag issues have almost compeletely disappeared though everyone seems to lag from time to time. This past Friday I was in the same (UK hosted) room for an hour, the only Canadian with 7 Brits and there wasn't even a hint of lag from me apparently. Look to your upload speeds and see what you're getting. My understanding is that the slower upload speeds don't update the rest of the PS2s in the room fast enough and so you get the lag effect. This can be particularly noticeable in the corners where the lagging car seems to go straight off to the outside of a corner, then snaps back onto the racing line only to go straight off seconds later. This I found had some people thinking I was dirty as I'd be inside another car in a corner and my car would lag and drift into the car on my outside even though on my screen I was tight on the inside. This forced me to start trying to pass around the outside all the time which is never easy! LOL. And if I'm wrong in my analysis of this effect, someone let me know. I'm no expert. http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Hi Derek/TheScotsman,

I'm sorry that you haven't read your emails, but if this is where you want to discuss this, that's perfectly ok.

Everyone that comes into the league is given a chance to race alongside us. After a few races we decide if they are going to stay based on if they add something to the race. There is a range of things that we consider; clean racing, awareness that it isn't a time trial; consideration for other people, as examples. As you've said, we've raced with you many times and clearly understand what we would be taking onboard if you joined. You are a good and clean racer with some brilliant side splitting banter and normally we would de delighted to have you join.

But.

We usually have a lot of organising and communication to do (and as anyone running a league race will tell you) from any clan I would have said, when it comes to the communicating of room allocation, time recording and general communication within the race itself (particularly during overtaking) the noise in the room has to be kept to a low roar. So after racing with you during knock about races it is clear that the other participants within your household usually see your racing time as a time for involvment. There is no way that we are going to ask anyone to change the way that they enjoy the game or the environment they play in. After racing with you during knock about time I wouldn't want you to change the siutation either. I always find your comedy moments with your family very entertaining. It is definitely a window on a very lively and vibrant life that you enjoy. So rather than offend you by suggesting that your family not take part in your races at the same time as you are racing in the league, we felt that it be better just to avoid the situation and race you during "fun" time only.

I'm sorry that you felt the need, no matter how innocent your intentions, to seek answers via the codemasters forum. Especially considering I sent a polite email to you explaining this. We don't take the racing too seriously but there are moments that need to be recorded to ensure the league functions. I believe that some of our members will try to take the time to explain this to you. It wasn't supposed to be a bad thing, but after explaining in an email the situation you continually created new names to join the forum with. It was as a last resort that extra steps were taken to encourage you not to. That is why you have been unable to join again.

I hope you are able to read and understand this from our side.

If you decide that this reason isn't good enough then please try another clan, because there are many excellent clans out there that woud give you a trial.

Hope this answers your query in the fullest possible way and look forward to racing with you during non-league times.

And look, you woken up Dingulbury as well.

Sorry for wasting your time and getting your hopes up but you really must check your email.

Hi Dingulbury,

You lag. All Americans in European games lag. Sad fact. But there it is.

I could explain, but I don't think there is much point. After reading the posts below everyone seems to have covered the angles in as a polite way as is possible. There isn't any hatred. It isn't because you are American or a "foreignor". It is simply the way that the game works. Close racing and lag are not good bed fellows and leads to nobody enjoying the league.

If you want a good racing clan to join I would suggest the CSL. They are mainly Americans and a real nice bunch of people. You may have a few months before you can reach their standard but you may enjoy it. But I find myself knowing that you will probably continue to sulk instead. But as you so eloquently put it, "whatever".

The league is only as good as people think it is. I hope you don't mind me using your own words to highlight this and to counter balance your more recent comments.
