Here are some quick and easy guidelines to make your HOSTING experience on TRD2 much more enjoyable. As always, if anybody has anything to add, please do.
1. As soon as the room fills up to your desired amount, state clearly any rules and regulations you are requiring from the group. Many people complain how much they hate people rear end bashing and corner cutting in this game, but I never ever have any problems with it when I make it a point to announce before the first race that it is not allowed in this room and that people who do so will be booted. If stated respectfully, there is rarely ever a problem! 2. If you do get someone in your room who corner cuts and rear end bashes(purposfully), make sure you give him/her a warning before you boot, many times they will apologize and explain themselves, as it is very easy to do accidently if you are still learning a car or track. 3. If you are going to host, please do not try to host more than your connection can handle. A six player lag free game is 100 times better than a 12 player game filled with lag. 4. Since everyone can only play what you have unlocked, make every effort to unlock them all as soon as possible. 5. Unless you have previously stated, always try to get the general consenses of the room as to what championships and track the room will be racing next. 6. Even though it is always up to each hosts personal preferance, "Forward only" damage is highly advised, as it will eleminate those who drive backwards for the sole purpose of causing trouble in the room. 7. Always, experiment with new cars and tracks, this game is so vast that it is easy to get stuck on a certain championship, and totally miss out on another championship that the room would have a great time racing, mixing it up is always a great idea! 8. When you have to leave, give as much notice to the room as possible. This will give them time to pass out freind request to each other and more often than not, someone in the room will take over hosting duties and continue the raceing in his room. Never ever just quite in the middle of a race as this will disconnect everyone! 9. When doing endurance races, don't try to do to many laps at first. Start off with no more than 8 laps so everyone can get a feel for what to expect. Once you've done that, 8-15 laps are easy and fun. If you want to run anything more than 15, make sure everyone agrees on the lap amount as it might be to much for the average racer and people will start dropping out. Pick a track that does not have an emmidiate sharp turn as this will cause most to ram into each other or the wall and cause lots of damage right away. When first starting the endurance races or racing a track that is difficult, it is always a great idea to do a 1 lap test run so everyone knows what to expect before they start the 8-15 laps. This will prevent any major pile ups as everyone will know the turn is coming. Mix up the endurance races with completely different Championships, for example, I am very fond of Running a 10 lap Masters Grand Prix endurance race then following it up with a 10 lap Bowler Rally Cross endurance race, or an Ice race then a Street race. The combinations are endless. Doing this will keep your endurance races fun and interesting. 10. When you have a person in your room who is harassing/rear end bashing/corner cutting and you have booted him from your room but he keeps coming back, there is way to get rid of him. Unfortunelty this game does not support a ban option, but follow these steps and you can keep him from coming back. Once in the lobby, go under options and set your self to "appear offline" Then right before you start the race boot the person you want to ban. Then go ahead and start the race. When the person you booted goes into the opti match to rejoin your game, he will not be able to locate your room and be forced to join another room. By the time you finish your race the person you booted would have joined another room and you will be able to set yourself to appear online again. I will continue to add more hints and guidlines as I continue to learn the intricates of this game. Feed back is always welcome. |

The best thing to do is start off with 12 people(give yourself the benifit of the doubt, you might be pleasantly surprised) and work your way down until you don't get any lag. Just remember, when you are assessing wether or not there is lag in your room, do not mind the glitches that appear on the ovals, ie. racing side ways or underground, this is a problem with the codeing, and will be addressed in the update that Codemasters will release latter this month. |
