Post Crowds at BTCC rounds

I was wondering how large the crowds at btcc rounds, in Australia we get large numbers of spectators at the v8 supercars, the last two rounds have had 88,000 and 70,000 people attending and at surfers paradise and Adelaide each year we have over 150 thousand attend. This years adelaide 500 saw 176,000 attend.

For the BTCC...
16,500 for Oulton Park
18,500 for Brands, it might not seem much, but it is only theSunday crowds and doesnt include....

...the V8 Supercars over here provided by AVESCO, the series promoter's attendance figures include:

* Birds flying overhead
* Clouds in the sky
* Trees by the track
* Dollars in HRT/TWR's bank account
* The amount of times Tony Cochrane sh.its on club racing.
* Number of times Mark Skaife talks sh.it
* Bumps in the Canberra track surface
* Cars burnt out on Mount Panorama
* Number of laps a DTM car would win by if it was allowed to race at Bathurst.

And they are still only getting a few tens of thousands of people at each race.

Apparently, 60,000 people went to rounds 25 and 26 of the BTCC in 1998.

DTM is the most popular I think. I was watching the Highlights of the race at Norisring(i think thats its name)and it said over the weekend there were 123,000 people there, and it was the World Cup Final. 123,000 is a hell of a lot compared to the 90,000 at the British GP(although they were restricted

gtr69.....
you could'nt be more truthful..re: AVESCO crowd figures....

I just cringe when Tony Cochrane comes on t.v. He is one of the most sickening people i have not met...Ah but what comes around, goes around....
He really does firmly believe that GOD MUST answer to him...
And i would like to buy a block of land of him... for i reckon he would definately say it was larger than it really was , thus a good deal would be done....for me.

Yes i am always sceptical...especially perth figures for this year as well....didn't look anymore than last year to be honest...but then again tony said it was a bumper crowd....
Thank god for the birdlife over hear...and the clouds and the trees and the car parking areas and the helicopters...

regards
Skids

GTR69 you obviously dont go to many v8 supercar rounds! I was at adelaide this year and i can assure you that there were easily 150 thousand people there over the w/e! i have never seen so many people at a racing event in my life! apart from the grand prixs of course!. I agree that they are not entirely correct the figures but they are close. I was also at canberra and believe me the crowds over the w/e would have been very close to 88,000. You live in Western Australia dont u? if u do how come u know so much about the crowd attendenc in NSW,QLD, ACT, South Australia and victoria.

Why would tony..... for the sake of his own arse in court fake crowd figures. Honestly use your noggin. If you couldn't see how big the crowds were in Perth you seriously need your eyes checked. They were bloody huge. From what i can tell they are bigger than your Toca crowds to say the least.

Skids, i agree that tony cochrane has a very aggresive and no nonsense approach to his management, and that has created a lot of enemies. Personaly i dont like his personality but i think he is extremly good at his job. Just look back a couple of years and see how supercars were struggling with small grids and poor crowds. He turned that around and has turned v8 supercars into one of the best motorsport categorys in the world! he may be a ****head but his damn good at his job!

The enforcer has a point. Due to legal reasons AVESCO would not be allowed to modify the crowd figures, if they did so they would find themselves in court facing legal action from promoters, the circuits management and the government.

I think you are exaggerating way too much there gtr69. The crowd figures are big. They are up there with the cricket and Rugby, and way bigger than the NRL. Its the 3rd largest sport in Australia.
