CHAT CHANNELS Unavailable - Work around

Ladies and Gentlemen!

If you are having issues with your chat servers, please take a look to the following workaround and see if this works for you :

If you are receiving this error message, please try the following: Log out of LOTRO and edit the userspreferences.ini file.

In Windows XP, you'll find the userpreferences.ini file in your C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online folder.

In Windows Vista, you'll find the userpreferences.ini file in your START>Documents>The Lord of the Rings Online folder.

Look for this section in the userpreferences.ini file:

[Net]
ConnectionSpeed=0.00
ComputeUniquePort=True
BindInterface=
UserSpecifiedPort=0

Change:UserSpecifiedPort=0 to UserSpecifiedPort=9000 or one port in the range of 9000-9005 so it looks like this:

[Net]
ConnectionSpeed=0.00
ComputeUniquePort=True
BindInterface=
UserSpecifiedPort=9000

Save changes.

Login and the LOTRO chat servers should be available.

I hope this will fix the issue for many.

Im on a XP pro sp2 and having the same problem, non of the workarounds works for me.

Im only having the prob. on Northmoor.

Same problem on Northmoor with XP Pro SP2

It could be an ISP problem

And four of my beta'ing pals have the same problem in Northmoor. Haven't checked the other server yet.

No Help for me, I made the changes but nothing works. Only the whisper command (Vista).

I found that setting it to port 9000 didn't work, but setting it to 9001 did.

it worked for me but not completly :

i connect to regional sff ooc trade chat but not the general and 4 others, for those i still get chat server unavailable
