Default Metric Units - Europe

I have noticed lots of people in Europe confused by some of the units used in game lbs etc are not International System Units ( wich are the most used in Europe and in the rest of the World actually)

would it be possible to implement an option to use the International Metric system as units? Im sure it wouldnt be too hard to implement.

Pointing this cos game is played by young people too.. and most of them dont even know what a lb ( pound ) is etc..

Pound is used on some English written PnP books and only.

The issue is that almost noeone in the world uses that old system, since metric system much more perfect in terms of calculations etc.

In europe with the exception of uk everyone uses the metric system, so the values posted in pounds are hard to understand to several players.

Making an option to choose in wich system you want to see those values would make it much simpler for a lot of players to realize the 'real' values of weights etc, thus making the game more interesting for them.

"Pfund" (aka "pound") is also in the german PnP rulebooks.

If anyone gets confused by that, let's rename goldcoins to €uros.

I dont think many would be interested in this change. Who cares if a club way's a lb or a g. I never calculate how much of what i can carry in my backpack.

The monetary system is already metric.

As for length measurement, not realy interesting. Ive never encountered a situation ingame where i though wow, i wish how far away that kobold is in cm.

A useless sugestion if ye ask me and not worth the developers time.

Well IT IS as much important as translating the game to other languages.

All Europe except the UK uses the metric system, so having values in a diferent metric system is the same as having no values simply cos they wont make any sense to people using the International system units.

What would it really change? If the unit is lbs or KG or if we measure the weight
in medium sized smileys, who cares?

If a character can carry 1000 lbs, 454KG or 33721 mss (medium sized smileys),
it doesn't change anything or make it more realistic.

I'm still pondering how somebody gets confused over this. No offense, but if the
item states 'Weight: 2 units' and your character sheet says 'Maximum Capacity:
756 units', it's pretty straightforward math.

What's more confusing is how the relation between platinum, gold, silver and
copper can be static and never changes. That's a miracle!

Whoa, that'd be really cool if the prizes would fluctuate according to how many coins are around! (Oooh, save your silver coins, today, a gold coin is worth 6 of them!)

Anyway, Draugkir, I thank you for your concern to non UK people, but being one myself and thoroughly appropriately confused by pounds (which are still used in Germany, by the way, and I think I saw a couple of recipes in french calling for pounds as well), I can assure you that your concern is appreciated but unfounded.

Hate to break the news to you but we do use the Metric system and have done for many years.

Those of us who grew up during the transition, like myself can use both (its not hard maths), my parents dont have a clue what a kilo is, and my niece doesnt know what a pound in weight is.

In addition I think you will find that the US use the Imperial system (although knowing them it will probably be different again).

At the end of the day, as Keeyrah pointed out what does it matter. To be honest I never look at the weight Im carrying, just how many slots in my inventory I have free.

Cool

Its fantacy game, pounds ect are thing from past. Fits for the world, but does make me scrath my head when i try to figure the battlefield and effects. Dosen't make a big deal in DDO as ther is no FF, so i can just yawingly click away.
I would use the option for my non-RPG characters.
