Default Rope

When are we going to get rope?

It seems silly if someone has a bad jump skill can't get to his team mates on the ledge 10 foot above. Simply drop a rope and climb up.

In PnP I never left home without the stuff

Me too , but they will never introduce them as the exploit potential is just too great. Waterfall bits in Tear of Dhakaan and VON 3 would be no problem and the barrier to the Dragon would be a joke. There are too many quests that would be too easy with fly.

Levitate might be workable if they limit it to... say about 20 feet or so.

lol..get a new DM.. :P

Rope and iron spikes.... very good, but how about a climb walls skill for a rogue. So you could send the rogue up with rope and iron spikes to make previously inaccessible places in an instance accessible tot eh whole party.

was going to say something similar.

in Pnp my DM hated me using Fly and invisibility combined (great for scouting)
or using a globe of darkness with a rope trick spell to vanish a party

He cured me of using my spells inventively by repeatedly killing me.

Hmmmm, I wonder why I no longer do Pnp?

Yeah, but you let them use fly as intended even if it scuppers you plans, then you use it against them at a later date... and I was joking really.

I think that adding ropes to the game wouldnt give Game designers that much trouble (for instance, they could choose were the rope could be used in a quest by adding some kind of object, like a rock or something, were the rope could be atached) and would Definitely improve the "work as a team factor" (and no longer we would have to carry jump potions or add skills to our jump ability). A good sugestion!

PS - about flying or levitating: i agree with electro, lets just keep things as it his since this change would mean lots of changes in the quests (better spend the designers efforts in more important matters), and god know how anoying it is when im DM and see my obstacles bypassed with fly/wind walk/dimension door, etc. very frustating indeed!

Yep, i know that, imagine ive created a floor that will crack so that the party ends going to a diferent path (im counting they all go there because the story key i created means they have to talk to someone down there that will help them get back in the trail), the walls are smooth as glass so no one can climb, then the wizzy says "wait, ill dimension myself upstairs or levitate and throw a rope down". Nothing bad about that since were suposed to alow players to do whatever they want, but now they wont go and speak with the guy they were supose too, and by not doing that ill have to put that guy somewhere else were the party must meet him and ask for his help because im counting on the party owning him a favour so later one he will ask help from them, etc, etc. Obviouslly this is all possible but see the kind of trouble this gives to DMs? know imagine what it will give to the game designers.
