Ok, I have this issue. When I play Jericho demo, after 2-3 minutes the computer shut down, usually after the 1st part where you have to move the rocks with the telekynesis power. I really doubt there is something wrong with my computer because absolutely all titles are working great and with zero issues, dx9 and dx 10 . I have changed video drivers and tried with 2 diferrent sound cards, same thing, after the rocks I got a random shutdown, can be next 10 seconds, can be next 2 minutes. The game is running very smooth, and my system is not overlocked or something like.
My pc specs are: X2 4200 Mainboard Gygabyte GA-M61P-S3 GF 8800 GTS 640 mb 3gb ram ddr2 666 300 gb caviar WD HDD Vista ultimate edition 64 bit Anybody encountered this problem ? |

I've had this problem with the Stranglehold demo but after Windows started scanning my C: drive after one of these shutdowns (screen goes black, can't do anything) I've just uninstalled it. I think it may be because it wasn't the proper PC version they just ported the console demo.

Try lowering the shader quality (Low) at that moment and see if this happens again. Codemaster games have these kind of issues as always and only community will end up finding some solution later on (unless a patch is increased for full game).

Stranglehold is not Codemasters' game and I haven't experienced anything like this before, not with Codies's stuff and not with other games either.

tried but dont matter what settings, resolution, shaders etc its doing same thing. Again, its the only game I am experiencing this. I am very curious if this will happen with the final version too.

Well, I asked you to lower the display quality because I have experienced similar issues with Fable (another port) where setting it to high quality will crash the game in some areas. The only solution was to lower or even turn off most effects to play the actual game. But considering that without shaders and shadows set on High this game looks like Unreal 2, you might wanna wait for some kind of official fix. Meanwhile try updating the following: - Forceware 163.71 - DirectX - Download latest PhysX drivers from their site. I didn't realize that the ones installed by the demo are really old until I started working on my own game (which uses PhysX as well). Download here. @Necros_21 That reply wasn't for you and I never mentioned anything about Stranglehold. |

Sudden shut downs are normally 1 of 4 things:
1 - Heat - check your airflow and make sure no great gobs of dust are blocking any fans 2 - Drivers - I know you said you tried 2 but you did nto mention their age. Try the BETA 163.71 driers (not the WHQL ones with the same number). They currently offer the greatest stability with 8 series cards 3 - Windoze is borked. Nothing you can do 'bout this 'cept reinstall. Windoze simply dies over a period of time, particularly when we are having to chop and change drivers for 5 different components with every damned game release. 4 - Power - You have a reasonably high power rig, particularly the GFX. If you are not running a serious PSU then a high power game can cause this problem by simply not being able to meet the demands of the card. By serious I do not just mean its wattage, btw. If your PSU came with the case or cost less than £50, then its time to throw it and buy a proper one. Sad but true...

Consoles have limitations on them that are vastly out of place on the PC, and the same is true in reverse in some cases. I understand that multi-platform games are now here to stay but simply lifitng up the code from one platform and dropping it on another will ALWAYS produce crappy results.
