Default dps question

this may seem silly however, im 38 and dual wield the purple 20.2 dps daggers which i naively think do 40.4 ave dps without skills. whilst my ornate lebethron bow i crafted myself does 21.3 dps without skills.

anyone think hunters get hosed on ranged dps? shouldnt there be hunter only bows which do 40+ dps at my level or double melee when you hit 20?

there are few bow dps upgrades for us either crafted or dropped, and quest rewards usually blow except for our 30 lvl one

plus my range eff is less than melee even with 180+ agi which seems borked

anyone any thoughts?

you just got the wrong gear mate
im a 38 hunter myself with 228 agility
my bow saeradan's bow 20.7 dps
with auto attack i always do around 70-90 dmg
my Crit chance is 15.1%
this is always in precision stance!
and im pretty happy about that,
but tbh i hear you with "shouldnt there be hunter only bows which do 40+ dps at our lvl" i think this should be brought into the game aswell
we depend on our bows and better bows for hunters only should be brought into the game

I don't think hunters get hsoed on ranged DPS. Bows then crossbows seem to have the same DPS as 2 handed weapons of the same level.

Your two daggers don't give 40dps, more like 25ish dps (guessing here), there is a penalty to off hand damage (as the burglar gets a class trait to reduce the penalty on the off hand)and maybe even main hand damage.

A 40dps bow for hunters only is a bit of overkill as the best weapons I have seen in game so far are only 30dps. Ranged combat seems to have the same base dps as 2 handers and you are at range with negates most damage from some mobs. High dps isn't everything you should be looking for in a weapon, high base damage is often better to overcome high resistances and to maximise specials damage.

Hunters already get a bonus to all bows, it is not in dps however it is in range, other classes can only fire a bow to a range of 25, hunters can fire a box/xbow to a range of 40, this is the way of showing the hunters are more skilled.
Personaly I think you like a lot of others have the concept of a hunter wrong, yes we can nuke the hell out of things but that is not our most important role, the name HUNTER should give you a clue, hunters most important and useful skills are the tracking, trapping and wayfaring skills as these are what really makes a hunter imo.

im not saying hunters should nuke something in one shot. i know a bit about playing one because of similarities with other games ive played. i didnt know about the off hand penalty, is that written somewhere?
either way all im looking for is parity between melee and ranged, atm my melee is more eff and more dps. the lack of progression of bows without being twinked through a high level quest is a problem. im using a one off recipe critical result available at 35, my next upgrade is 42 for crafted and as for quests who knows.
i dont mind meleeing for more dps but my hps wont take it

If your looking for your next bow, head into Angmar and to the camp in south west malenhad, there is a quest there to find a ranger and escort him back to the camp, he is a little to the east of where you get the quest, the reward is a bow called the worm hunters bow and that will take you untill you can use the lvl 42 crafted ones i.e. the smooth black ash bows, you will need a fellowship to do it with if you are lvl 38 though.
