Aren't they like level 6-8 around Thorins Hall? in that case they are way below your level and therefore you recieve no award for killing creatures that you find easily killable at your present level. Move South or to Bree-Land where you'll find more challenging creatures to fight.

If you target a mob and it's name is highlighted gray, you will not receive any xp for killing it.

The closer a mob is to your own level (or above) the more xp you will recieve for killing it.

KAII players are interested in the player-versus-all aspect of the game more than anything else. They are often soloists who want to kill everything and anything that crosses their path.

Dunno if anyone's noticed, but there's an 8 level "block" under your own level where Mobs in that block will give you XP... if you kill Mobs under that block, you get nothing at all.

On the plus side though... if Mobs are under that block, they very rarely agro you as you wander past. Very useful for the various exploration deeds.

But even if you get no XP, you'll still get those light hides you need for crafting or selling. I took my Minstrel to Thorins when I needed 120 lights to craft a lowbie set of leather armour. 120 sounds like a lot of hides, but it's pretty quickly done and instead of spending money at the AH, you end up killing 150 grey mobs (not all will give you a hide or anything at all) and you get to sell everything else. It's no XP, and of course that's not for everyone, but it worked for me!
