Default Why it's more fun to solo as a Hunter ;)

Teamed up with some others today with my Hunter. Tried to explain what a Hunter does to the Mincer and Burglar who were along with me. The Burglar seemed to 'get it'. The Mincer? Hmmmm..

First area - 2 elites and one normal mob. I target the furthest Elite and get ready to put a slowdown shot on him after I lay my trap when..

"YAAAARGH!" shouts the Mincer and all three of them are charging the three of us. Didn't get time to put the trap down. Now frantically trying to pull aggro off the Mincer.

The Burglar sees that we have a problem and riddles all over one of the elites, that seems to be helping until...

"YAARGH!" shouts the Mincer and the elite mob we were fighting (because of trying to get it off the Mincer) runs away as the Mincer turns and attacks the riddled elite who now wakes up and attacks the Mincer.

The Burglar says something in the mike that sounds like "Oh faff uksik!" ( The sound did break up a little) and we start trying to get the new elite mob off the Mincer. The Mincer continues to use damage songs until we have almost killed this first elite just as the second one returns remembering how much it hates the Mincer who is now very low on power and decides to ... run around the area so the Burglar can't hit the mob any more.

Now totally out of power, the Mincer can't even heal themselves and I (already in damage stance) am peppering the elite with everything I have and notice that the third (non-elite) mob is now also taking an interest in the Mincer.

The Burglar saves the group by catching up with the mob, hitting a conjunction and yelling "GREEN! GREEN! GREEN!" down the mike and, for once in its life, the Mincer does what it's told... *chuckles*

Apparently, so I've heard, groups need a healer to tackle elites.... next time I'm either soloing them, or taking a Burglar

PS: I have two Mincers of my own and have yet to cause any of the above problems with either of them

Perhaps the minstrel was a soloer too. Force of habit (Always play hunters) means I've soloed my Minstrel alt to 19. End result - I have no idea how to heal and am avoiding groups as it'll end up pretty much as you stated above

With Mincer, I'm getting a picture of someone in one of those big feather hats with a new stance - 'camp comment'

e.g. "dear, your shirt really does not go with that hat" does 1337 self esteem damage.

Very well written.
Yet to happen to me, thankfully.

I think it's ALOT more fun to solo with a hunter, cause you can put up traps, track animals...It's just so more "Realistic". I have a champion...got boring after lvl 31... Strike, strike strike... That's why I like the hunter...You can be exellent with the bow, and put up nice traps, and torture the enemy with swift shot...Maybe they haven't the greatest armor or sword-attack. But I love to play with them...

As a footnote to the above tale, the Mincer in question has now outlevelled us through manic questing and was heard in chat the other night complaining that they can't get a group.

When people heard that the character was a Mincer, they were totally surprised. After all, Mincers can always get a group and are always in demand, aren't they? (Mine certainly are...)

I didn't say anything, but it was very tempting to give out the link to this little story and say "That's why they can't get groups..."

Last night this same Mincer was complaining about having failed a certain chapter quest 16 times that day and bemoaning the rubbish group members they'd had to deal with.

In my opinion, the common factor in the 16 failures was the Mincer in question - not the group members and I'm glad I wasn't high enough level to accidentally end up in one of those groups.

I now duo all the time with that Burglar from the original post, and we have great fun!

Hi,

Got to agree with all above. The hunter is a by nature
a solitary deep individual. At least that's how I treat
mine. The thought of continually getting embroiled in
fight after fight makes me shudder (most of the time) ;-)
I find trap setting a great resource and hopefully this
will grow as i level.... (Sorry low level here and refuse to
look too far ahead so that every skill advance offered is a
surprise.)...

Kinda serious envy that you've found a soul mate there
bud (Burglar).. guess my time will come.....

Mincer just about sums up the Tanks...

My only wish is that my hunter could climb trees. Serves
two purposes.. Handy place for a quick snooze, and also
take pot shots at any wild life looking to disturb my
rest after running those long distances...
(Wish i could keep weight off the same way my Elf hunter
does...)!!

My advice: take it slow.

This is definitely a group game, so eventually you will have to find a Kinship or PuGs, and it sure takes most of the fun away from our class. This is mainly because other players don't realize that hunters need their time to watch the targets movement, focus, lay a trap or two, light a campfire, and THEN engage the target(s).

Most of the groups I've been with are rushing into everything, not reading the quests and so on. What is more frustrating is that it happens in Laurelin, the RP server...
