I read some rumors in another forum, that normal shots deal more damage/have a higher chance to hit/... when the charakter has build up some focus.
My question, is this true? Has "focus" a second function beside giving the option to make special shots? |

I'v heard that also, but I have not seen any proof of it in-game.
The only way focus can deal more damage is if you use a skill that require focus. Eg a Penetration shot will (mostly) deal more damage then a single swift arrow or quick shot. When you get merciful shot (requires 5 focus) you will see a lot more damage if you also crit. I'm lvl35 and when I crit with my Mersiful shot I can deal 580 damage with just one arrow

I use Focus a lot and dont think it adds damage, though I sometimes imagine it crits more. I usually open with Penetrating Shot followed by Swift Bow and the Swift Bow seems to crit quite often. Probably imagining it though as theres no mention of it in the hunter stats.
I find it a little surprising that in the other threads many people describing their attack methods dont seem to bother with Focus, as using it increases your damage a lot by enabling the special attacks. Very important against mobs 3, 4, or 5 (If you're feeling lucky) levels higher than you to get the big damage in. I also use traps a lot so I can use the bow unhindered. The only melee attack I find very useful is Low Cut as it enables you to slow the mob to 50% so you can run if needed, then use Intent Concentration to blam in a couple of high damage specials
