Black Screen Problem Solved? - Ntfs Compression

Hello. I had to register for this. I found something interesting today. I got Dirt finally working. Before I had tried this game with two different comp and three different OS (XP, Vista 32/64bit).

Currently I run Vista64bit. I noticed that NTFS compression causes very common black screen problem. I accidently installed Dirt to other empty hard drive, which was indeed NTFS fileformat but compression had left out.

I double checked this.. I enabled compression for Dirt installation folder and guess what.. BLACK SCREEN. Then I removed the compression and game worked flawlessy.

So if you have this terrifying black screen on Dirt startup you may want to try this. Navigate to place where you installed your Dirt. Clik Codemasters (or Dirt) folder with right mouse button and press properties. Then click advanced, there is spot called "Compress or Encrypt attributes". If there is mark on "compress contents to save disk space".. take it off and press Ok, then Apply and finally run you game.

Or you can disable compression for your whole HDD by right clicking it and take mark out from "compress this drive to save disk space"

I spent hours for fixing this problem. Tried XP, Vista32/64bit, different audio cards.. and most of solutions on this forum and so on... then the solution is this simple. I really hope this works for you... it worked for me. Feel free to ask more details.

EDIT. My game was patched with newest 1.22, works with 1.1/1.2 as well as with demo too.
