Very interesting review, agree with nearly everything written.

Totally agree with the control paragraph, although these "non-shots" are infrequent, I certainly get a lot of balls going in completely the wrong direction to the arrow (even resulting in several hilarious own goals)

However, no mention of it being impossible (in my experience) to actually run past an opposition player without being tackled, in fact he states the opposite

"And whatever you do, don't play as one of the better sides - you'll find yourself passing the ball out to the nearest defender from a goal-kick, then having him run the entire length of the pitch and slam it past the keeper into the top corner without so much as dodging a tackle."

With the contradicting opinions and reviews of this game I'm starting to seriously wonder if there are different versions of the game out there.

I've been thinking that myself, but that's because we were promising splendid sound-effects by... who was it? And I don't even remember hearing the announcer announcing players who score in gibberish. ARE there different versions out there?

What a good, honest review.

It's fair enough as he points out the potential the (rare) good points of the game.

But I'm so glad that more and more reviews like this get posted online - what Codemasters have done is nothing short of disgusting and it's only right that people know this before making their purchasing decision.

I've never heard any announcer on Xbox. The 'atmosphere' rarely rises above a whisper-quiet crowd noise.

The player collisions also have to be mentioned - all they do is run into each other and fall over. Goalmouth or midfield scrambles are like the keystone cops - their player runs into yours, he falls, your player runs into theirs, he falls, etc etc. Probably the most ridiculous new 'feature' of the game.

I've not actually read this review as I can't get it hear, but it sounds like he didn't like it much. I trust Stuart to be honest and sincere and stuff so thats fair enough - unlike at least 50% of this forum who wanted to see this game fail from the start I'm sure he would have wanted this to be a good game - so I'll have to have a read.

However, on the PS2 version I've never had a non-shot. Did he state which version he was playing?

Same here. I think there must be differences in the versions then. It seems the Xbox version suffers from the shooting problem? What about the PS2?

That's a good point. I'm sure I read about individual cries from fans, ironic jeers when missing a sitter, players screaming when injured...None of that is present on my version (it seems I have to say 'on my version' as it appears there are differences between the formats).
