Default RD2 Active Cockpit Camera (ACC) Utility V2.0

I just uploaded the RD2 Active Cockpit Camera (ACC) Utility V2.0 to the Blackhole Motorsports "Downloads" section -- this should be available in the Race Driver 2 "Utilities" section:

http://www.bhmotorsports.com/RDRIV2/downloads/2913

This RD2ACC V2.0 utility will allow you to enable the "Active Cockpit Camera" option with both the unpatched version of the game, as well as the patched version. This was designed for use with the V1.1 patch, but should be compatible with all future patch versions.

The "Active Cockpit Camera" ("ACC") option gives the camera a few degrees of motion, allowing the camera to move in response to the vehicle's actions. Since the cockpit camera is roughly where your head would be if you were driving, what you end up with is a "head-bobbing" effect that acts in response to what is going on with the car's physics parameters -- that is, if the car hits a kerb and it's a hard jolt, the camera will move sharply in response, much like your head would move, and if you go over a rise or a slight bump in the track, the camera will move in a more gentle manner. This is all tied to the physics engine, so it's not artificial in the least -- in fact, it is considerably MORE realistic, and it helps convey to you what the car is doing MUCH better than the standard camera view.

Follow the directions given when the RD2 Active Cockpit Camera Utility opens by selecting your desired cockpit view, click the checkbox to either enable the "Active Cockpit Camera," and then click on th bottom button to complete the installation. Note that it may take several seconds to process the installation -- the utility will give you a message indicating that the selected option has been installed (the new utility takes considerably longer than the original version because it's unpacking/packing the *.big files, rather than just swapping the entire *.big files, so be patient). After you receive this confirmation message, then close the RD2 Active Cockpit Camera Utility and run Race Driver 2 as usual.

Enjoy!

Take ages... I don't know what they do to it at BHM, maybe they check each file first, but it does take ages. My last mod took about eight hours to appear.

Note that the ACC utility has been uploaded to the Race Driver 2 "Utilities" section (not the "Camera Updates" section):

Hey JB, is it me or is this ACC not as noticable as the first one?I'm having a hard time seeing the difference between having it activated and then switching it back to the original, then activating it again.Everything seems to be installed ok,however since the patch 1.1 I am having some problems with the mirrors and can only seem to save 1 replay that is not corrupted......hummmmm... ....Air

same here, I see no difference in default and Active cam. Is there a trick to it to get it working?

You know, you're right -- driving the Jag at Brands, you don't get the extreme "dip" coming through T1 like you did before the patch. I've checked my camera values, and the values I've distributed in the V2.0 version are EXACTLY the same as I used in the V1.0 version, so the camera actions should LOOK the same. Dunno what's going on, but I'm going to try to play with the values to come up with something a bit more "extreme."

For RazorX (KamisoriX): Make sure you re-run the ACC V2.0 utility and select the option to "Install Active Cockpit Camera (ACC)" -- the utility sometimes glitches and installs the wrong file (I've seen this happen once or twice in testing, but it didn't seem to be repeatable, but that might be what's happening to you). Also, make sure you run the ACC utility BEFORE launching RD2 -- you CANNOT change your views while the game is running.

Edited to add: I just compared the default camera to the active cockpit camera by swapping them with the ACC V2.0 utility, and there definitely IS a noticeable difference. Note that the ACC only affects the in-car view -- it does NOT have any effect on bonnet, bumper, or chase cam views. Again, there IS a noticeable difference when the ACC is installed -- you get a LOT more "bounce" from the in-car camera, and with the default camera installed, it's virtually static (you do get some suspension bounce, but not much).
