Hello, my recent steam purchase of OPFDR won't make it to any sort of splash screen, or display anything other than a black screen and my cursor.
My video drivers are up to date, and I also tried older drivers. I tried a new download, and verified the integrity of the game cache multiple times. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I recently downloaded the Steam version of Operation Flashpoint - Dragon Rising, and the game crashes as soon as the first level finishes loading. I have tried lowering the performance settings (without success). Once the level loads, I get a blank screen--then it crashes. I have the latest NVIDIA driver for my graphics card (191.07) and I'm wondering if the game has issues with it. I really don't want to revert back to an older driver just to play this game (if that's even the problem). I wish I had some suggestions for you; but I think we're screwed until someone releases a fix. We need a patch...already.
currently using: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 AMD X2 6000+ (3.2) NVIDIA GTX 285 4 GB DDR2 RAM Last edited by arbalestyx; 07-10-2009 at 07:57 AM. |

I am having the same black screen with only mouse cursor problem. I bought the game from steam. When I start the game from the steam bar it just went into black screen and stuck there. I can alt-tab to windows task manager, and i see the FPDR.exe taking 100% cpu power but the game is still stucked at the black screen. I dont even get to see a welcome screen.
My system is : Windows XP Professional ATI 4870X2 AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2GB RAM I have tried updating all my drivers to newest but that did not fix the problem. Last edited by dorohnl; 07-10-2009 at 09:32 AM. |

Same problem, only running in Vista - so no black screen, just a message saying the game has stopped working.
This sucks! Might go buy Arma2 and contest the transaction on my credit card. Running: Windows Vista ST2, 32-bit ATI 4780x2 Intel Duo 4 GB RAM |

I'll give them a point for quick service, I submitted an email to tech service regarding this problem and got a response in about an hour. Granted, their fix didn't fix anything, but at least they are trying.
What they recommended to me was to go to "settings" and disable steam community in-game. If you are having the same problem, try that and confirm that it works (or doesn't.) |

Chalk up another failed Steam purchase. I get the black screen, a shiny black cursor with white trim, and a frozen computer. I actually have to hit the reset button following any attempt at launching the game.
Oh and I've never had Steam community enabled for in-game. CM did have an automated reply though. I hope they fix this soon! |

same thing here black screen nothing happens. task manager 'not responding'
BUT. set the game in the exe properties to run as 98 and the intro works menu and game runs . BUT the game window its self is offset to the left no radio sound my speakers are fine my drivers up to date and for sure is not running at 1024*768 or at 85Hz(I'm on a CRT). where the hell are the graphic options sound options? I did not expect this to be that crap with no optimization. give us a patch please or a workaround until a patch is out. I hope to see some sort of reply from the moderators here with some solution from the devs. EDIT: if running the game with win98 compatibility this will open up 2 OFDER.exe in the task manager. You will then close the OFDER.exe that is using the MOST memory usage and the game will run. Change speaker config to 6 chan from your sound effect manager (AC97 on board sound) fix's radio speech. I had the same problem...
In case you all got a amBX set like me (unlikely). This fixed it for me: Open the amBX control panel Goto preferences and turn off "Let amBX generate effects". Set it to "Disable Generated Effects" |

I went into the :\Steam\SteamApps\common\operation flashpoint dragon rising folder, changed the OFDR.exe compatibility to win98, and then START THE GAME FROM STEAM BAR(if you start from the folder it will just tell you to turn off compatibility) once started the game from the steam bar, go to your task manager and turn off the higher memory usage OFDR.exe. the 2nd OFDR.exe will start loading (it will still be the black screen for a while but if you look at your hdd inicator you will see it flashing a lot more than before, meaning its loading the game)and for me it took about 30sec to 60sec and I finally got into the game. I have tried playing campaign and online, both works with this method, no crash ingame so far. however the game does crash on leaving the game. but anyway, thanks for providing this workaround! at least i get to play a bit now. hope they patch the game soon. btw i opened up the task manager before i start the game, that way i can make sure i can alt-tab to task manager when i need to.
