Default What programs do OPF artists use?

Besides 3Dmax?

I want to start learning anything I don't already know.

Photoshop
Zbrush for high poly modelling & advance texturing

If your not comfortable with 3ds Max then Maya is a very good alternative, Modo is apperently an excellent package but personally haven't used it. XSI is pretty good for animations but the latest iterations of Max have started in many ways to surpass XSI.

Of course LUA is something worth learning as that is the primary scripting language. Your best bet is to bunker down with Max and learn the in's and outs of it.

+1 for modo because its really easy to see your final product fully shaded and stuff, ot just fluro blocks like in 3ds max. Modo just looks and feels much nicer. I use modo for texturing, 3ds max for modelling.

Yep, which is why 3DS max sucks.

It may "suck" but it is industry standard for a reason. The only downside of Max is stability in personal opinion, in the 7 years of using it I still use version 9 because it feels much more stable then the most recent versions.

Agreed. Max likes to flatline a little too often for my liking. However it's understandable when your chopping math and vets and such.

Maya all the way (8.5 because I mod on budget), just feels more intuitive for me, which I find to be probably the most important thing. You can use plugins to convert to max which is nice for OFP2 modding.

I've heard that Softimage's latest version is possibly better than 3DSmax since being bought out by autodesk. Softimage is pretty popular with games these days too... But I don't know, I haven't used the latest version of max.
