Right, I've been playing the game for about a
week now and though there is much I like about it there are a few issues that stand out. 1. The inability to swivel your head when driving a vehicle (freelook?). I'm not sure how the game developers didn't notice this one or felt it some how increased the realism. If you only fix one thing in this game please make it this. 2. The 'Command Radial', this needs some attention but the most important change would be the option to have the radial close automatically once a command has been issued. This gripe has been fixed for me, Thanks to a mod by TemplarGFX I can now hold the button down for the command radial issue one or more commands and then release it and the radial automatically closes! Here is the link... hXXp://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=391737 Sorry you will have to cut and paste the URL and change the hXXp to http as this forum won't let me post URL's yet...still just a junior member 3. When selecting individual members of the fire team or the whole fire team it needs to be visually more clear what has been selected. This may just be a problem I'm having but after selecting individual team members I then have trouble re-selecting the whole team using the F toggle key (does not seem to work). Another example of the team icons failing to convey information would be when ordering my fire team to enter a vehicle I'm never sure when they are all in (I listen for the doors to close). 4. OK now a silly complaint. The 'enemy orgasam'! I know you have heard it as well. You are about to enter a building and you can hear the enemy inside "ooohh aahhh ohhh" I mean really...who was responsible for that sound effect! 5. The assault rifle with grenade launcher. When you press the weapons toggle key to change back from launcher to rifle instead of immediately switching modes it reloads the launcher. If I want to reload I can press R and reload myself but when I am in a fire fight and seconds count...when I press switch fire mode...SWITCH FIRE MODE!!! 6. Speaking of weapons lets talk about weapon load out. We need the ability to choose things (before or in game) such as preferred weapon scope or pistol silencer etc. 7. Mission timers. Boy does that just suck the fun out of it! I'm in the middle of a fire fight and having a great time when a voice announces the mission is a scrub and that's it, game over, back to a previous check point. 8. Which brings me to 'checkpoints'. Sometimes a little to far back with the checkpoints guys. We already spend a lot of time running and running and running...you get my point! 9. Battlefield 2 was my all time favorite PC game and when I first heard of Dragon Rising I had hoped for a game like BF2 only infinitely better. As far as multiplayer goes I'm super dissapointed there are no dedicated servers and the option for teams to battle for control of the map and spawn points. Speaking of Battlefield 2... To the developers, Spend a little time playing Battlefield 2 for ideas on fixing the driving issues (vehicles in Dragon Rising have terrible handling) and control setup for flying helicopters in BF2 was much better as well. Anyway...enough negitive talk, this game has great potential and I'm going to stick with it. So thanks to Code Masters for making the game! Last edited by Tricky16; 27-10-2009 at 05:37 AM. I can tell you haven't adapted too well to this. What really showed me this was the switching between the assault rifle and the under barrel grenade launcher. The reason it does that is because there's the 5.56x45 bullets, than the 40mm HE, then the 40mm HEDP. So you hit 2 and you get the 5.56, hit 2 again you get the 40mm HE, then you hit 2 and you remove the 40mm HE and insert a 40mm HEDP.
I have no problem with anything you've mentioned above. I can use the command radial so fast you wouldn't tell what orders I was giving until you heard the person. My quickest command is "Formation Line - Combat spread - Engage at will". Are you too lazy to hit "Q" one more time? The driving handles fine, just tap the turn button don't bash it in or you'll spin around like crazy. I love the fact you have a hand break, I love drifting ![]() When you're freaking out because you entire fire team got slaughtered and you're hiding in a house you will be crying you butt off. So I like the "ohhhh ahhhh ohhhhh". Battlefield 2 isn't a realistic game, this is. I have never had any troubles with the mission timers. Are you going on a sight seeing tour or something? You don't get to pick your kit in real life (Well you do to a certain extent). You can't just change assault rifles on the fly and take somebody's assault rifle. Your rifle is zeroed at the range you want it. It's sighted the way you want it (Some people want to have the target just above the tip of the aiming reticule because when people are 500m away their body is smaller than the front sight post).

Shifty, I don't want to flame you because that is not constructive in anyway but you are very wrong on quite a few issues there.
He is asking for a fire switch mode,IRL you wouldn't unload your GL then reload it with a different ammo type (which it does in this game automatically when changing fire modes) if you wanted to use your standard bullets, so he is right to ask for a fire selector Most people find the control system clunky, me included, it is not a natural way to issue orders, especially when under fire and you are frozen giving commands, the fact that you do it quickly does not mean that it is acceptable to anyone else, your likes and dislikes do not extend to everyone, and what he is asking for is a representative of the majority (not all the majority) The "ohhhh ahhhh ohhhhh". again personal choice This game is realistic? NO WAY, it has some realistic points but it is no where near realistic, take it from an ex soldier, I could go on with a hundred ways about the different things that are not realistic but they have been mentioned in enough threads already The mission timers are on in some missions, and if your not following the mission quickly it does fail you, this would happen in RL also and so it is right really, but it also stops you from experiencing the so called "Open world environment" that they promised, I think some missions need it, but again down to personal choice Actually you do get some choice in RL about your weapons, in Spec ops at least, you them leader will decide based upon his mission parameters what equipment he and his team need, normal infantry don't have this freedom of choice though Combat at 500 meters is difficult with modern assault rifles, most are effective to 300 meters, and the accuracy and ballistics in this game are quite off the mark in this game anyway along with the damage model |

Shifty, thanks for responding. You disagreed with everything I wrote, I only wish I was as happy with the game as you are. Come on, there must be at least one thing you would change/improve?
Anyway, every one has their opinion, I mean I was sure my first issue regarding free look would be pinned at 100% in the poll and it isn't.

Well the reason for it not being regarded as a big problem may be that hardly anyone uses vehicles, because of the "interisting" physics and the damage simulation (well I tried to make a tank mission; I decided against it after the Abrams was destroyed by a single Queen Bee hit on the front armour).

The AI and accuracy modes pretty much fixed most of my issues in terms of AI tactics and accuracy. I'm a very very good shot at 300 yards with an M4 (Even with my 20/40 vision corrected). It's very easy to get shots out to 300m (If there's little wind). I can understand quite easily how the USMC gets it's accuracy reputation (A USMC friend taught me how to shoot). The animations are another bad thing I can't stand. Walking, running, crouching, aiming, etc... I could go on and on for hours about the things I love and hate about this game. In the end, it all comes down to the fun I have with my friends in our COOP gameplay. BTW, protip for you folks. Screw the multiplayer system and use Hamachi with your friends to make an "Internet LAN" and play through LAN mode. No disconnecting or friends list locking up. Remember if you're the host and you have the AI and accuracy mods by Templar it will apply for the whole servers. So you friends can have fun too! Vehicles do not have proper damage states. A single rocket will take out anything in this game. Helicopters fall out of the sky with a few bursts of 5.56x45mm bullets. I mean, even the Marines are having stopping power issues on humans with those. Why would you use them on an armored helicopter?

Good Issues; there are many more (inlcluding the very limited mission builder, horrible helicopter handling etc.). This is simply a horrible game compared to OpF1.

Why ask if OpF2 is better than Arma2? It is a moot point. Arma2 is a better and much improved OpF1; and OpF2 is not. Case Closed. |

![]() I installed it last night, edited the COMMAND.XML file and now the quick command radial opens when I press (in my case mouse button 4) and closes when I release it...freak-en-awesome!!! <-- Really that's how happy I am! Which of the dispersion system system files do you use? I tried the 'Difficult DS' |

Swapping to grenade launcher is really irritating
it should be like this: pressing 2 should only swap between rifle and grenade launcher, not GL ammo types if GL is equipped then hold down the ammo type button to swap GL ammo types its also a pain with the rocket launchers - especially the queen bee as it takes forever to reload. Maybe for that we should be able to equip it, then hold down the ammo button to choose which ammo type to reload. driving is really touchy, you should be able to drive with the mouse as well with a similar system to the one in OFP. Selecting indivual members to select individual members you have to press q then the number for the guys you want 1 - 4 on the keyboard, then when you issue commands it only issues them to the selected squad members. Selected squad members have their icons highlighted yellow |
