Default shooting things out of the sky looks crap

in all the vids were helis get taken down it looks rather... unimpresive.

in the armoury trailer the chopper that gets it just turns in to a blacked husk and falls from the sky

and in the co op vid when the guy takes out the pilot and it crashes it just rolls down the bank intact.

i was expecting things crashing to be like on grid.

is it going to be like it is in those vids in the final game or is it still work in progress??

Although the title of your thread is a bit on the heavy side, I tend to agree with you on this one. I hope it was merely WIP what we saw, but so close to going gold we probably must learn to live with it.

The damage system looks very old school to me too. It would have been much better to have the rotors continue to turn, while the helicopter bursts into flames and only break off when the helicopter hits the ground. So in other words have the helicopter turn into a husk only after it hits the ground.

While the helicopter is still in the air and it's hit by small arms fire or even heavier weapons, have smaller explosions, bits falling off and have smoke eminate from the engine, but keep the chopper on it's path and don't have it dropping from the sky like a log.

Great topic title ! lol

If a helicopter suffers catastrophic damage & explodes (as in the clip) I don't think the rotors would still be spinning. If the helicopter suffers minor damage & goes down then you would see the rotors spinning. It all depends on what sort of damage was done at the time, I think Helios already said that there are varying levels of damage on vehicles (that inc. helicopters).

In the last video of coop, Mi8 damage is very unrealistic. I talking about rotor (blades).

Rotor have very heavy inertia. If you damage engine of helicopter, rotor not stop in 1 seconds. Helicopters can landing without engine, is autorotating landing. If you helicopter lost engine, you can use inertia of rotor (and remaining lift) for landing in helicopter.

Immediate shutdown of the rotors is unrealistic.

You've to realize that this is also a matter of performance and balance. If you were to have detailed physical destruction of every vehicle in a game like this the consoles would frie in overload and there wouldn't be much else to put CPU power into.

But seriously it would take to much CPU power, and you'd have to sacrifice other stuff.

But the OP has a good point. If you look at the co-op video, you don't really see a catastrophic event, like a large explosion. The helicopter just simply fell out of the sky. CM would have done better to have a smoke plume come out of the helicopter after it gets hit with enough rounds, rotors still turning and have it arc down slowly and fly into the ground, then explosion.

In case of a massive explosion, like a missile hit, it should break up in mid air (fine the way they showed it in the Vehicle video, I think it was)

Every time I look at this, the more I try and bury my head in the sand. I hope this is a WIP.

A COG representative has posted in this thread

I believe the chopper wasn't downed because it suffered mechanical failure, more like the pilot was killed by gunfire.

I have a question. This Mi8 wasn't downed by a guy with a 249 was it? Or was it hit by something else that you aren't able to see in the video?
