A COG representative has posted in this thread Book 13: Doom of the Last-king content feedback

Hello!

Book 13: Doom of the Last-king, the fifth free content update for The Lord of the Rings Online has now gone live and like previous times, we’d really appreciate it if you could feedback any thoughts you’ve had into the following thread.

This feedback will be used by both Codemasters Online and Turbine to identify changes made in the patch that players liked or disliked and help us make a clear path forwards.

If you’d like to refresh your memories on what went into Book 13: Doom of the Last-king, you can do so by viewing the official patch notes here.

If you can break down all feedback into easily digestible junks, it will help both Codemasters Online and Turbine to identify key areas where players are happy or unhappy.

Thanks!

i personally don't like the constant mist in forochel, makes the landscape look boring after a while.

I really like the environment, the scenery is so bedazzling, especially at night. However, I will say that the area in parts seems so deserted it can be a little boring. Also running around a lot once again, which also makes it a little boring. I think a bit more action and mobs are needed for future areas.
I do like the quests, they're new and different. A lot of variance, which is fantastic.

I find some of the creatures to be fascinating, and I like the change to crafting mastery items that drop off of them. It was so tedious to grind 100 mobs to get a measly 10 items... now you get them whilst doing quests. Woohoo!

I've yet to properly test out the Defiler in Ettenmoors, but I've made one and messed around a little bit. It seems pretty good. Some of the skills are a bit strange and will need a bit of tweaking in my opinion (the gourde or whatever it's called, it has an induction and seems to almost always miss or be resisted...). The healing over time I think is great though, and a great compliment to go with Warleaders.

The changes to the UI and fellowship panel have made a vast improvement to the game. One of the major things to remember about games is not just about whether they're fun or what features they have... it all has to look tidy and professional, which i think you achieved with the UI changes in this book.

ok a little copy paste good things 1st this time

ah before all this is middle earth not hello kitty world i don't need fully paved wall protected highways give me back loads of hostile mobs in roads than jump on me to take out a bit of the dullness that is riding , i can see being attacked can be bad but not being attacked doesn't looks good also!

1st im aware b13 isn't really for lvl50 but ill have to include my lvl 50 analysis since b13 q line is there

new area and mobs look very good to the eye!

I like fishing is a nice addition even if it looks a bit to simplistic // could have some mini game attached to reel in or even to grab the bite, but ok overall hope its reviewed in the future!

for lvl 44 solo oriented ppl i consider it well designed quest seem to be well made and labeled , still some a bit to simple haven't seen all yet though
from 1-10 for lvl 44+- ppl i would give it a 7-8 note //could have a few more fellowship directed content(haven't done all ofc there can be some fellow but notes said solo quests)

Quest nature also fells like lots of grind kill x mob y times or get y items from x mob!
Its solo content after all how much challenging can it be if every class must be able to solo it!!

That's why i don't like to much solo the devs run out of options for quests! and game looks like an infinite grind
PPl can say as much as they want NUMBER is different than challenging but at end of the day solo content can only be has hard as the weaker of the playable classes

HA don't like that find 10 picks kinda qs were theres only 10 Picks to be found always on same spots! lifetime of those Q is one run if you ever do it again you will know were to find everything again!

Travel very nasty if you don't have the reputation but keep it that way

Reputation system of forochel Very good and how should have been all the way!

fellowship panel looks good!

annuminas easier to access cant say more for now!

MOBS

BY DESIGN (emotions attached)

frost wirms ---> great
sabertooth ---> me likes alot
peiko ---> nothing new but they have very cool attacks
good enough for me ; job well done
giants ---> look good
wolverine ---> just a badger but i like the name
mammoth rider ---> very nice (is there more than 1?)
frost worms---> look ok and soem new skills (head looks like worms from TREMORS)
cold wights ---> same model but more skill look ok to me also

for lvl 50 the content is not very challenging and impossible to do in more than 2 player team or you will fall asleep coz is so easy.

Don´t like the solo directed content off b13 and feel that theres a great need for fellowship content

also theres a great lack of elite mobs in b13 not talking of Elite masters i only found one and was instanced! , i don't like scores and scores of normal mobs give back mixed mobs areas!!! areas filled with same lvl/kind mobs are VERY DULL and give no surprises! they are either easy or hard or very hard but no surprises!!!! just like new imlad either you kill(read grind) all to get there or you just stay out.

Explored the caves in hope of finding some elite beast look a boss or something more difficult but all i found was big numbers of normal mobs! ONCE AGAIN DULL PLZ JOIN BACK ELITE AND NORMAL MOBS IN SAME AREAS AND WITH DIFFERENT LVLS

LVL 50 challenge POV (cold analysis no emotions attached from burglar eyes)

sabertooth look like kittens due to lvl ----> free exceptional hides
elk don't even fight back
aurochs are simple signatures
mammoths nothing special except that 1 that has a rider on his back its gives a little more of a fight
angmarin still hard as long as you solo them
peiko are nasty when more than 1 and that root/stun very nasty indeed ./clap
bears are bears
coldworms are worms
giants are giants
and garudans are garudans
frost wirms --> something to kill and no loot most times but very good design!!!

In short:

Extremelly boring. Big disapointment. Lack of challenge. Nothing new. Badly designed quests.

A brief overview:

- Scenery is absolutely mind blowing. Love the weather effects ...
- Interesting mobs, nicely populated.

However... Book13 absolutely blows. It is terrible, so far we've spent 5 hours of travelling from one end of the map to the other having encountered perhaps three fights, the rest has been playing courier for NPCs. We've only just got onto Chapter9...

The quests are pretty appalling too. So far, nigh on every quest has been "Kill x of these", "Find Y of these"...

We're slowly trying new things; the addition of the Rune-Keeper in Moria, a straightforward magic using class, is a pretty big step in that respect. Zone in itself is nciely designed. However what is placed on it makes it kinda dull. Alot of same mobs, almost all normals ones, not much elites, makes it come over as a baby zone imo.

Quests are fairly good with some nice rewards at the end.

BUT the epic q for B13 are just awfull. It's like B10 but made even worser. Where you could swim across lake Evemdim in B10 here you cant.

There is just way too much travelling around from A to B back to A, then to C then to A again, which makes it VERY frustrating.
That point aside some quests could be made more fun than just another: kill giant/wight to prove your worth...

So far what ive seen from book 13 is a massive game performance drop from 50fps stable to 10-15fps out side if im lucky. i do hope there is a patch coming to fix this.

havent even looked at the new area/quests/book itself but:

Good points:

Quest interface: A great improvement, very easy to use and handy for figuring out where your group is!

Mustering horns: very useful, convenient, and very cheap.

Great looks on new landscape.

Some good fixes on things like balrog 2-shot issue.

Bad points:

Captains further devalued by mustering horns.

No halberd option on book quest, combined with high speed 2h weapon option means I see nothing worth taking given captains power issues.

No fixes to longstanding captain bugs.

Still no sign of captain class dev.

Conclusion:

Great game, some nice content according to friends and kinmates. But you'll be seeing more of my guardian, burgler, loremaster etc in future... my captain main is pretty much retired except when called out for raids anyway due to continuing issues (I mean really, you fixed cosmetic LM pets, but didnt bother with the dwarf heralds??).

I love it! I love every little thing of it!

The new /lff system is great, and it works. I've found some people in no-time to do some fellowship quests I had in my quest log for quite some time.

I love the environment of Forochel! New quests, new storylines!

I absolutely love fishing

I like the changes to the emotes, although they weren't really necessary, they flavour it up a bit more. Eating, drinking, laughing... it's all more "alive" now. I like the new animation for summoning your horse.

So far, no negative things found...
