It's cheap, especially given the dollar at the moment, and it's fun. I bought it a few weeks ago. Not played it much (due to RL constraints) but it's pretty cool. Worth the price of a few beers in my opinion

I have dabbled with the demo, can't remember if it was renegades or alliance - just remember how cool it was to land on planets and marvelling at how a glorified shareware game had accomplished such a feat in a relatively short development cycle.
Over 20 years since elite 2 came out - why is it left to an independent team to actually repeat planetary landings? I believe we are being trickle fed innovation so the most money can be milked from us - shape up devs, this gravy train isn't gonna hold for much longer. |

Because ultimately people play space sims for space Meezul.
Yes it's 'cool' to have planetary landings, but most space sim developers relise they get more cash having impressive light effects and high detailed texturing then allowing you to land on afew planets. Though yes, I enjoyed the Evochron myself and was impressed, especilly given it's size. |

I would say that the game sites reported min specs are as states on the site.
It just doesn't run at a friendly fps count on anything less. The truth is that there are some real innovations in ER and I think its great. I will also admit though that while aspects of it are superb I dont think its code is one of them. Don't get me wrong, I do like and regularly play the game but tbh I soooo dont care that its all cleverly wrapped up in a 25meg package, its the broadband age and I'd prefer far far bigger downloads in exchange for smoother running and a solidly high fps count.

Perhaps you are right Tiki, after all, the space games that have come out since elite 2 (sans planetary landings and other freedoms) have all sold extremely well and established themselves as a dominant genre.
Get a grip - IT'S BEEN 20 FRICKING YEARS! Don't you think it's about time SOMEBODY did it? W'eve been suckered into various space games with promises of planetary landings, only to be told that idea has been put on hold till the next iteration in the series. Kudos to the evochron crew for incorporating it. If they can do it successfully with their tiny team and miniscule budget..... |

It is amazing that a small developer can do planet landings, but they aren't that impressive to be honest in Evochron Renegades - and also don't really serve much purpose different to that of docking at a space station.
Space is were its at and game developers need to prioritise a games features, I'd prefer fewer, fully and excellently implemented features to more poorly realised ones. Unfortunatley that means some gamers desires are not met. Hell I have always wanted to be able to paint my ship however I want it painted and (*thinks*) can't remeber a gam you can do that. |
