Exclamation Important message to all players

Attention all players,

It has been found that certain individuals and groups are selling/trading Codemasters in-game property and game accounts/characters for cash through various means including, but not limited to, Ebay and RMT websites.

The Codemasters Terms of Service (TOS) and player Code of Conduct (CoC) found here (http://www.rf-onlinegame.com/support.php) and here (http://www.ddo-europe.com/support.php) clearly state that that all content in Codemasters' licensed versions of RFO and DDO is the property of Codemasters, and Codemasters does not allow the sale of such items/accounts for real money. Not only does this contravene our TOS and CoC, but can also lead to potential damage of a games economy and the overall experience enjoyed by the players of our titles.

We are and will actively investigate the individuals and groups involved in this activity and reserve the right to take action against these people to protect RFO and DDO for those who play legally. Anyone found to be buying or selling in game property or accounts, will lose their characters and accounts.

Players are asked to refrain from buying anything from these sellers. Whilst we understand the temptation to do so, the seller(s) do not own these items. By buying from them, you too are breaching our TOS and CoC. Gaining items/characters is an integral part of our games and as such, by buying items players are missing out experiencing the games to their full potential. We will take action against buyers as well as sellers and this could lead to a suspension of your account, along with removal of the said items.

Codemasters operates a zero tolerance policy for this type of activity, and those found to be breaching the TOS have and will lose their characters and accounts. The community can help us in this battle by resisting the urge to participate in RMT, and report suspected offenders to us at https://cogsupport.codemasters.com

Thanking you all

Codemasters and Alchemic Dream

Space reserved!!!

Good post I haven't seen anything yet on Ebay and can't really understand why someone would want to buy an account anyway.

Not like it takes long to get to lvl 10

Well, I've seen a game store (of course I'm not gonna name it here), which also offers "powerleveling services" and their current price for power-leveling to 10 in DDO is 250 bucks. Well, guess that's helpful when you're Bill Gates and too lazy to do the work, yourself. Bah...

Thumbs up Way to go CM !

Too bad the goldtraders already bought Google ads, so the advertisement is showing up everywhere.

As posted in another thread I boycot any website I find gold, item or powerlevelling ads.
If I find the site would be a valuable ressource I even might send the webmaster a notification

Won't save the world but someone's got to start it.

But but but! They're not selling the items, they're selling "the time spent to acquire the items"!

Anyways, this is a good move. Props for zero tolerance to cheaters.

Exactly. This is very, VERY dodgy legal ground. If I pay someone else to play my account for me until I'm level 10, I'm not breaking any CoS. What's different if I pay someone to give me their items?

Good Satine, this kind of behaviour dont belong in DDO or any game, farmers/ebayers etc are a curse and should be treated severely and with extreme predjudice. They dont contribute in anyway to the game nor to the experience for other gamers.

This is like Heyesey says, very dodgy legal ground. People aren't selling in game items, they're accepting money to perform actions that result in transference of some items from one character to another. No one but the company ever owned the item, and the game allows for characters to trade, so trying to prohibit it as the consequence of real world transactions might not be such a sure bet...

One thing is certain though, and that is that "selling" items for real life money is bad for the game! So dodgy legal position or not, I'm glad that Codemasters are taking it, and I wish them every success.

Well, in say Anarchy Online it's forbidden to share your account info with others, and if you're found to be doing so for the purpose of having sold it to another person your account will be banned... most game companies have had ebaying shut down though. You can't find much on ebay relating to lots of MMOs lately.
Problem is, there's a bunch of sites that do nothing but provide means of trading MMO items and accounts...

To buy items or a character that way has got to be the most inane thing I've ever heard. Why would someone want to buy a game and then let someone else have all the fun, which let's face it, is the point of the game. Like buying a Ferrari, letting someone else drive at incredible speeds, then you get in and park it in your driveway. Or buying a book, getting someone else to read it, then sticking it on your bookshelf and telling everyone what a good read it is!

I'm sure someone else can come up with a better analogy to truly show the silliness of the situation.
