Default What's the armor check penalty?

Hi there,

my question is the one in the heading. I'd like to know what it means and how it affects saving throws, the armor class, etc.

Thanks.

A suit of armor's check penalty is applied against a set of skills, most of them being ones important to rogues. Swim skill gets the penalty at double rate, so you can expect a quick drowning if you go swimming in full plate.

The armor check penalty is the ammount of hindrance your armor causes you. It applies to certain skills that require free body movement, including jump, swim, tumble and many others.

You can see you armor check penatly by examining an armor. Heavy armors tend to have high armor check penalties.

Please note that when swimming you also gain additional penalties based on the weight you are carrying.

It does not affect armor class or saving throws at all. It only affects certain skills.
