Default critical chance?

Hello all,

This question probably has an obvious answer, but I am both new to this game and to this type of game so while I'm reading everything I can online about it, I still don't get some things and this critical business is one of them.

What is the difference between, for example, a +1% hit chance and a +1% critical hit chance? Your assistance is appreciated.

Greetings, be welcome!

I believe, and I'd appreciate if anyone could correct me on this if I'm incorrect, that a +1% hit chance (found on swords) increases your chance to not miss (you have probably seen the 'miss' text appear above an enemy's head) on any attack by 1%, be it a special (class skill) or auto-attack (your base damage without any damage modifiers applied by special attacks, which your character performs automatically during combat provided the enemy is in your weapon's range).

A +1% critical hit with auto attack chance (found on daggers) increases your chance to perform a critical, or more powerful, attack from an auto attack by 1%. A critical hit is signified by a larger than usual damage number 'floating' up from the enemy's head. This may not seem important due to the lack of damage of auto attacks, but some classes have skills (Burglar for example) that depend on critical attacks in order to become selectable.

I hope that wasn't too convoluted, or plain wrong! This kind of thing isn't usually my forte.

It makes perfect sense to me, thank you very much for your help! There is so much to know in this game, and it just keeps getting better the longer I play.
