Default "Epic" class quest?

I wanted to ask the more experienced minstrels something about our epic class quests as I have some strong doubts if there is much sense in pursuing them.

Yesterday I finished chapter 6 of book VII (solo, I'm 47, so it was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in the game so far...). I got this shiny mace that has 1.2dps more then our "epic" class weapons, is 0.1 faster while having exactly the same damage range and is "ancient dwarven made", so I suppose it's around the same quality as our "beleriand made" weapon. On top of that our epic weapon subtracts 99 from armour value... (do I get it right, that it's subtracted from OUR armour?) while having only +5 vit more as a plus.

Btw, for fellowship play I carry an ancient steel sword with only 0.4 less +power reg as our second "epic" weapon.

So: Why should I bother to try to do the epic weapon quest? Is there any follow up that opens only after finishing it? Did I miss some detail about the rewards?

It's discussed here. You need both bits of the epic to get the skill, which is well worth it.

No. It's the enemy armour value. Try equipping it on and off while watching your character screen (press 'C'). I did that with a weapon that had similar wording, and it did not change my armour at all.

Thanks for the answers!

Good to know there is a reason to do the quests after all. The straight "out of the box rewards" don't really justify the hassle as even if it's -100 from enemy armour the club is only OK. With it's low per hit damage it's useful for out of combat range healing only, anyway, as it gives decent +pow reg and a decent +Power.

Yes the weapon is not much use, but the ring is rather nice. However the main reason to do the quest is the Legendary trait Fellowship's Heart. This is a superb trait. I have used it on a couple of tricky encounters, the extra healing from the trait made those encounters far easier.

The dagger that is the reward from the Bogbereth raid takes some beating, I love its 1.5 in-combat power regen ;-). Oh, it is also a 26.1 dps weapons...and has some other stats...but for me it is the power regen that swings it...
