trouble at start, cant get to the scavanger unit

bought this game years ago and have recently reinstalled it. problem is thers agate blocking me from reaching the scavanger, i can find no other way to it and no way to open the gate, firing at it does nothing.

i dont recall having this trouble the 1st time i played this years ago. guess i got stooped since but i am truly stuck here.

aaaa you have to look around about the outside of the gate first. if your near the gate go to the north then follow the cliff east... i think its somwhere there... if i can remember... youll find a bunch of guys there...
