Default The Boston Files : expert / fullgame

WAIVER: The writer would like to make it known that this thread is in no way meant to resemble "the Scunny thread".
Although I guess somethings cant be helped !

BOSTON UNITED SEASON 1 RE-CAP

The season begun full of promise as Boston United welcomed new manager Kev Riley to York Street. Because the call up was so sudden for Riley the first season is in re-cap form, I wasn't writing things down !. Beaten in the three pre-season games they did at least provide a chance to look at the players on board at Boston and with a couple of additions on loan we set about achieving the task of making the play-offs.

LINE UP: Roughly for the season

STARTING
S.Croudson (GK)
B.Chapman (LB)
M.Greaves (CB)
S.Balmer (CB)
M.Hocking (RB)
M.Angel (LM)
N.Redfern (DM)
J.Robinson (AM)(loaned from Crewe Alexandra)
S.Bough (RM)
G.Jones (CF)
E.Showunmi (CF)(loaned from Luton Town)

SUBS
R.Valentine (LB)
L.Beeves (CB)
M.Bennett (CM)
A.Dodd (CM)
R.D'Sane (CF)
S.Douglas (CF)

The season in a nutt shell was a real up and down affair. Things didn't start well with a couple of losess and it seemed to take forever for the defence, which showed a heap of promise, to actually start playing as a team. Scoring was slow early on in the season also but that was soon not a problem with Jones and Showunmi forming a very good combination up front. Both players are 6ft+ and finding them with a long ball wasn't hard. Jones eventually fell 1 goal short of leading scorer for the 3rd div with 29 goals while Showunmi was only a few behind that with 26. Bennett also chimed in with 8 well struck free-kicks and Greaves and Balmer both provided headaches at corner time stealing more than a few with the head.

After climbing mid-season to outright 2nd things were looking good for Riley & Boston until the dreaded injuries hit. Riley was left using youth players in many games and if not for the fact Boston had been knocked out in both cups in the first round he may have struggled to field a competitive team at times.
Dropping down to 10th before being able to stabilise the team, the club worked hard at gaining back the places it had lost eventually ending up a creditable 4th spot but loosing out to Swansea in the play-offs.
Riley was very positive after the last game although he did remark that with 2 pending retirements and the return of Robinson & Showunmi back to their respective clubs things would need to go well in the off season to ensure the momentum kept going forward.

STATS: SEASON 1

P46 - W26 - D8 - L12 GF 89 GA 59 +30 86PTS 5TH

Manager 44% Manager Month: no
Director 47% Manager Year : no
Supporter 47%

1796 points

So a pretty good start to the new career, looking forward to updating more regularly as season 2 gets underway.

DIV3: Scunny Utd 2 vs Boston Utd 4
A bit of irony on hand as Riley took Boston to Glanford park to meet Scunny Utd in the season opener. A.One making his debut for Boston wasted no time in opening his account for the season 20 minutes into the first half. A corner in the 26th minute saw Greaves head home to make it 2-0 at the half. The second half saw Scunny pull a goal back straight away before One notched his second of the game in the 54th minute. Sub S.Douglas scored for Boston minutes after coming on in the 68th to ensure he will be well used this season. Scunny pulled back a late goal but the game was over before then
Man of the match: G.Potter

LEAGUE CUP: Round 1 Walsall 0 vs Boston Utd 1
This was considered a harsh draw for Boston as they travelled away to meet first division Walsall. Riley knowing it would be too hard to get the fitness back in time for the next div 3 game resorted to using most of the subs to play this. It was a titanic struggle with the youngsters from Boston refusing to budge. Riley grew worried as the game finished normal time at 0-0. Using his last sub Riley brought on A.One for the extra time period of the game. As soon as he was given the ball One charged toward the Walsall goal and unleashed a fierce drive into the back of the net making the crowd at Bescot Stadium silent. The 107th minute strike the game winner.

So there ya go. Just started season two and a couple of good results to start with. I'm pumped to get home now and carry on ... so i'm outta here. Take care dudes

NO!!

As much as we loved the Scunny thread we dont need another update thread as we already have one.

No one uses it and makes their own threads up about it all the time so a new update thread would be pointless.

NZ keep em coming

Cheers guys for the raps Just to clarify, I dont want another Scunny thread either. The update thread is cool ! .... I just prefer to post seperate and have always done so. It's as much about me having a laugh writing it as anything else. (Oh what a boring life I must lead ) anyway the season continues .......

DIV3: Boston Utd 1 vs Chester City 3
With only a two day break since the epic ecounter with Walsall we took the field against Chester city at home fatigued in soom areas while being inexperienced in others. The lads were shown up by a good Chester side who were 2-0 up thanks to strikes inth 20th & 45th minutes. Fighting better in the second half we pulled a goal back in the 56th when One struck home. Chester though were too strong and made us pay for pushing up searching for the equaliser.
Man Of The Match: G.McCann (CM)

DIV3: Macclesfield Town 1 vs Boston Utd 3
Still not fully recovered fitness wise the lads from Boston fronted up to Macclesfield at Moss Rose in the pouring rain.
The home side took the lead early though against the run of play, but all was level after D'Sane was brought down in the box and he calmly converted from the spot himself. This gives him the quickest goal on debut for Boston since the war !. Halftime saw the sides locked at 1-1 with D'Sane having a titanic struggle against Macc's Miskelly in goal. A supurb solo effort from D'sane on 54 minutes and a great lob over the advancing Miskelly on 64 minutes gave D'Sane a well deserved hatrick on debut and allowed Riley the pleasure of returning to York street with 3pts in his pocket. Other notables from this match included Riley playing four strikers for most of the second half replacing the two side mids.
Man Of The Match: R.D'Sane (CF)

DIV3: Portvale 2 vs Boston Utd 1
Top of the table and unbeaten Portvale came to York street next. With only one day past since victory at Macclesfield we again fell heavily on the bench to perform. Although A.Dodd debuted well in the midfield and Beevers worked tirelessly at center back we never looked likely to take points from this one.
D'Sane did manage a consilation header 5 minutes from time but all in all we were out played by a better team.
Man Of The Match: L.Beevers (CB)

DIV3: Oxford Utd 0 vs Boston Utd 1
With time to recover well spent and some confidence growing Riley and the Boston boys headed to Kassam Stadium on a raid to gain 3pts against 17th placed Oxford. All looked very well after 10 minutes when D'Sane latched onto a cross from One and headed home for his 5th in three games. Oxford however picked up the pace and fought tooth and nail to get back level but it would be to no avail as a staunch Boston defence denied wave after wave of attack holding out for an eventual 1-0 victory. Croudson in goal came in for high praise from Riley on completing his first clean sheet for the season. M.Quayle also made his debut up front.
Man Of The Match: M.Angel (LM)

DIV3: Boston Utd 1 vs Torquay Utd 0
The lads were keen to face Torquay at home but couldn't transfer that enthusiasim to the pitch. The first half was dull and most of the second half followed suit. With 10 minutes to go Bennett curled in a longish free kick which seemed to suprise the keeper as it carried on into the onion bag.
A poor game really but Riley was more than happy to take back to back victories for the first time this season.
Man Of The Match: C.Shuker (AM)

DIV3: Boston Utd 5 vs Brentford 1
Bottom of the table Brentford stumbled into a rampant Boston side intent on inflicting as much damage as possible to the visitors. Croudson in goal was caught out after only five minutes with a failed clearence that was gratefully excepted and finished to make it 1-0 down early. This only served to spark York street into full voice and the players responded brilliantly scoring 5 unanswered goals in the second half. Scorers were D'Sane (3) One (1) Angel (1). D'Sanes second hatrick in 5 games moving him to top scorer for the division.
Man Of The Match: M.Angel (LM)

DIV3: Doncaster Rovers 1 vs Boston Utd 1
Only two days after the brentford smashing and again fitness was becoming an issue. It poured down throughout the ninety minutes which added to the gloom of a lack lustre game. A hard chase saw One block a clearence then neatly tuck away the loose ball after 22 minutes however Doncaster replied on 44 minutes when Croudson failed to hold a fierce shot which fell to the awaiting Rigoglioso to tie things up.
Man Of The Match: S.Croudson (GK)

DIV3: Peterborough Utd 0 vs Boston Utd 1
London road played host to a travelling Boston side fresh and recovered from recent tight schedules.
It was all bad news for Riley though when after 10 minutes One was hacked down from behind with the resulting torn calf muscle predicted to take as long as a month to heal. The rest of the game was messy and spitefull, broken only by small periods of skill. On 80 minutes a corner for Boston was not cleared properly and Greaves poked home what was to be the winner as he claimed 2nd of the season.
In the end Riley was happy to take the points from 4th place Peterborough.
Man Of The Match: M.Greaves (CB)

LEAGUE CUP RD2: Boston Utd 4 vs Bournemouth 3
With yet another 2 day gap since playing away to Peterborough we had the huge task of trying not to get killed by traveling Bournemouth in the League Cup.
J.Hayter opened the scoring for the visitors after only 3 minutes which had manager Riley looking very troubled concerning the remaining 87 minutes. G.Jones starting in place of the injured One made the best of starts equalising with a great volley on the 35 minute mark. The game went end to end until mid second half when Hayter again put Bournemouth 1 to the good tapping in a deflection on 60 minutes. Not to be outdone D'Sane pulled it back to 2-2 intercepting a poor pass back before calmly finishing. It seemed all over for Boston after 80 minutes when Hayter completed his hatrick with a supurb volley, Jones however was not giving up and latching onto a great through-ball from Brough made it 3-3 in the 89th minute.
Extra time was not what Riley needed at all ! and both teams looked badly fatigued. Then on the last throw of the dice a long ball found Jones towering above his markers who ficked a magic ball to D'sane who drove home the winner with 119.20 showing on the clock. York Street erupted as the final whistle went and the visiting coach was left to ponder how they lost a game in which they out shot their opponents 12-6.
Man Of The Match: shared between R.D'Sane (CF)& L.Beevers (CB)

STATS: progress 2004/2005
DIV3: P9 - W6 - D1 - L2 GF18 GA10 19pts 2ND 6 behind Portvale
League Cup: Through to round 3

Sorry bout the long read dudes !!!
Good luck with your careers
