You might try going into option and selecting control and reassign the buttons to suite you.

From the Read Me:

iv) Configuring Microsoft Sidewinder Precision and Force Feedback Wheels (USB):
Windows XP:- Assign the 'Accelerate and Brake' control to the Accelerator in the Indy Car Series Controller Setup. Leave the Brake Pedal unused.

Windows 2000:- Assign the 'Accelerate and Brake' control to the Accelerator in the Indy Car Series Controller Setup. Assign the 'Brake' control to the Brake Pedal.

Windows 98:- Go to Control Panel -> Gaming options -> Microsoft FF Wheel (USB) -> Properties -> Settings and set 'Pedal Mode' to 'Separate'. Assign 'Accelerate' to the Accelerator Pedal and 'Brake' to the Brake Pedal in the Indy Car Series Controller Setup.

HTH.
