I know there are posts about this already, however - not having a fully functional multiplayer component for this title is a horrible mistake.
I am an avid open wheel & stock car fan that runs an online league using NASCAR 2003 by Sierra. When I first heard of this new title, I had hopes that it would have a dedicated multiplayer effort such as Sierra does with their NASCAR titles. If it did, I would fully incorporate an open wheel division into my league. The decision to not make this a fully functional MP capable game will ultimately hurt the sales of this game. It will be thrown into the realm of Gran Prix 4 - on its own a great F1 racing sim, but now a forgotten memory within a year of it's release. I picked that up for $5.99. This is a horrible mistake. Thousands of NASCAR fans are waiting for a quality open wheel internet capable product (save the LAN crap for someone who cares), and this title missed an opportunity to corner a sorely ignored piece of the online racing market. This decision by Codemasters is such that I will not purchase this title until it is severely marked down, and that will be later this year. Has anyone learned? Single-player racing "sims" cannot sustain their intial offering price - they tank faster and harder then MP dedicated titles. Very bad move Codemasters.

I have to totally agree that they made a hugh mistake with not going for the online,I too am a big nascar fan but before i was a nascar fan I was an indy car fan,and the reason was i was born on may 28th,and i live about an hour and 10 mins away from the indianapolis motor speedway and have been going there since i was a kid.so i feel for you,i have always said there needs to be a great open wheel game other than F1,so when I heard that IRL game was coming out, I too was excited about online play, could you imagine online play in the INDY 500 mode???!??!?!?!?!?!and having about 50 or 60 people all trying to qualify for one of the 33 spots, that would be awsome, and ,and then running the 500 with 33 online players,BUT CODEMASTER HAS MESSED UP IN A SERIOUS WAY.this game could have been hugh if it was online. and codemaster would have set up the applet to go online and play,Hey codemaster if you guys do an IRL 2004 game do yourself and all of us a big favor ...MAKE IT ONLINE!!!!!

I agree 100%!! As an avid open wheel racing fan, I was so looking forward to the IndyCar Series game on the PC and was hoping that the multiplayer would be half as good as Papy's Nascar Racing. I'm not a big fan of the stock cars, but I too have a league in NR2003 because of the pure adrenaline rush of the online racing. I was hoping that GP4 would be just as awesome, but the lack of multiplayer just killed it for me. I even went out and bought F12002 just for the multiplayer and couldn't believe how pathetic it was. If it wasn't for GTR2002 I would have ditched that too a long time ago.
Come on Codemasters, listen to us - you need to add multiplayer capabilities to this game! If you don't then I'm sure I'll see it next to GP4 and F12002 in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart a few months after it's release. Since Papy lost the Nascar franchise, I'm sure they are plotting their next move, hopefully to give us open wheelers what we want. Could Papyrus CART Racing already be in the works??? |

scottman...
i don't know if papy lost nascar or not but you are wrong....n2003 is the last that papy is making.....if you don't believe me go to their web site and read up. now for the open wheel games...i will buy and play any open wheel game when some company wakes up and realizes that online play is a necessity for its survival. but so far it appears this is going down the same road as the rest of them...and that is a bummer. |

I was so excited about this title... until I heard that there's no on-line play. Like many others, I graduated through on-line leagues in Nascar 4, 2002 and now Nascar 2003. Everyone I know in all my leagues will buy this title tomorrow if there was multi-player. Without it - no way.

well schenoweth I dont know where on their website you are reading this, because their website is [url]www.papy.com.and there isnt anything there about them not making another nascar game, and they would nt have lost it to ea sports because first off papyrus was the first to get nascar and papy has been putting out their games even wtih ea sports putting out nascar games and nascar usually lets more then just one company make games not to mention EA sporst might do great football games but they lack quality in their nascar games big time.
anyway i have and go to papy's website all the time and like i said havent seen one word that this nascar 2003 is the last game, and if you are going to any other site other than [url]www.papy.com.its not an offical site,do forget about 2/3rds of what you read on the web isnt true,so if you tell me where at on papys website and or the offical website of nascar 2003 so i can read this, and like i said before papy is making way too much money and they do a great job for putting online racing out there with their nascar game.every year papy gets the best racing game of the year.so sorry i dont beileve it. but hey put a link on this forum of where you are reading this because i bet its not an offical website !!!!!! |

Scottman - Papy HAVE lost the licsense and EA have exclusive rights to NASCAR. I don't like it anymore than you do but I'm afraid it's true. Look at some of the interviews on www.bhmotorsports.com.
