Arrow Huge Framerate drops

My system:

AMD 950
768MB SDRAM 133MHz
Geforce2 PRO Leadtek 64MB DDR
Audigy soundcard

Here is the issue.
When i just walk around in the multiplayer map the framerates are at least above 25FPS. Smooth gaming.
When theres some gunfire and i come near the person firing, my framerates drop like crazy. I had a gunfire in a smallroom where my framerates dropped down to 3fps (yea i could count em)
Its really an anoying issue, i run the game at
1024 * 768 @ 32bit color with no FSAA and double buffering en the rest of the options on.

Try turning down your directx sound acceleration.

It's a long shot, but give it a try

Hi!

I just got accepted to the beta, and I haven't finished downloading yet to check, but from what I can gather the game probably stresses a system like yours.

Your CPU and video card are probably not sufficient to run at higher rates. You might want to try lowering the detail of the game.

Also, try the newer Nvidia det drivers at www.nvidia.com if you haven't already.

Your CPU (is it a Duron?) isn't enough.

If you have the money you might want to upgrade to a VIA KT400 (good feature set for future tech that is just around the corner) or an Nforce2 board. You could get an AMD XP CPU and some DDR RAM. You'd also need to upgrade your video card though. But this suggestion is probably too costly.

The zero cost solution - maybe a little video/cpu overclocking (i do mean a little... this ALL depends on heat and what the mem/cores can handle), and some software tweaks. You might want to go to a site like www.guru3d.com and find out about that. (Tons of things you can do to increase performance)

Good luck!

I disagree, big time.

I think his system should be more than enough to run this game at those settings.

I agree, the system is fine. I have a PIII800EB 512MB ram and have no problem running it and a Geforce2MX400 64MB of ram at home and there is no problems. I just don't run it at 1024... just 800x600.

Yep, I cant run it now... but i'm pretty sure with my system (a tad bit slower than his except for the videocard) could still run it fast at 1024x768.

Heck, played Raven Shield?

That can SHOULD be a monster on my system, but I run it with everyone turned to max on 1024x768

and it is SMOOTH as silk.

This game is technically a peice of cake to run compared to that

i must agree that perf is disapointing, if compared with UT2003(similar qlty by looking at graphics evn though completely diff style)

800*600*32 all else max in UT2003 i get about same as 640*480*32 all else at min

That's because your system is bottlenecked, gwalahad.

What he describes is most likely the result of a bottle neck. Usually one or more pieces of hardware is vastly superior to others.

For example, I can get a Geforce4 TI4600 and pair it with an Athlon 900 and SDR RAM on a via KT133 chipset. I can run UT2k3.

The Geforce4 4600 can EASILY handle UT2k3, HOWEVER, the bandwith is just NOT THERE in the rest of the system, so the Geforce4 4600 can only send so much data. In that case, any settings will yield similar results. The more the other hardware allowed the superior 4600 to reach its full potential, the more of a gap you would see between more demanding video operations.

The same is true for RAM. Say I have DDR 400 RAM, but the bus on the main board (say KT266) just doesn't have the bandwith for DDR 400 RAM - EVEN IF the RAM is at DDR 400 speeds, the best one could hope far is DDR 266 speeds.
