My guess is your hardware is to new ( Core i7 920, GTX295 ). Hardware before GRID was release.

GRID has had it share of problems with the different computers out there. Suggest you give Codemasters a phone call on this one:

UK support number from GRID manual.

Tel : ( from within UK ) 0870 75 77 881

( from outside UK ) 0044 1926 816044

Anybody here in the forum have GRID running on a Core i7 920 CPU and GTX295 video card?

Don't feel right buying DIRT 2 if others are getting screwed out of their hard earn dollars.
GFWL stole my game

Please Codemasters and Microsoft fix this injustice to online racing! Let the WHOLE world race online like we do with GRID and Flatout 2!! Will F1 use GFWL?

You may want to try setting grid.exe afinity in task manager to only use 2 cores...
There have been a lot of problems with quad-processor. Grid plays well with 2 cores - not more (If I'm correct, the i7 have 4 cores - maybe 8 with hyperthreading??)

I have the exact same issue, game just keeps loading forever after creating a profile.

System as below (quite similar) :

Core i7 965
GTX285 (182.06 Just released today, and they wrote the following in the release notes "Up to 10% performance increase in Race Driver: GRID at high resolution and AA.")
P6T Deluxe
DDR3-1333 2GB *3
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit

Have anyone found a workaround / solution for this?

Hi all!

I just experienced the SAME trouble!
I have searched on Google and i have not found anything that solves my problem.

I have the following setup:

AMD PhenomII 4X 940 BE
Nvidia 9800GX2 @ 181.22 Drivers
M3N-HT Deluxe Nv780 Chipset
DD2-1066Mhz @ 8Gb
Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit

I have tried the "-novirtual" at the shortcut file, but its still not working, i just changed my CPU from a Athlon64 x2 6000+, and started GRID, that's when the problem accurd...
loading...please wait!
loading...please wait!
loading...please wait!
loading...please wait!
loading...please wait!
loading...please wait!

I JUST WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!!

EDIT:
When having the "-safemode" command on, you can enter the main screen, but my game just crashes as soon as you try to race.

BUT, if you take "-novirtual -safemode" then theres no difference then before, instead ju will just have a crappy resulotion and some ****ty graphics....

HELP!!! =(

You can't do that on AMD Phenom?
i cant change/shutdown the processes cores from four to two.

Any advice for me?

EDIT:

I SOLVED THE PROBLEMO!

This is what i did.

In your program/GRID/System folder theres two files called:

*hardware_settings_config.xml
*hardware_settings_restrictions.xml

*REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES*

What i did was first opening the config.xml file change "False" into "True"
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<hardware_settings_config version="39" >

<cpu>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="false" workerMapFile="system/workerMap.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="0" dvdStorageProcessor="0" dataSetMonitorProcessor="0" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="0" fileStreamProcessor="0"/>
</cpu>
Then close and save the file.

Now open the last file called restrictions.xml

Change all "2" into your core number (in my case i changed them into 4cores as you can see in the quote)

Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<hardware_settings_restrictions>

<cpu>
<restrict_info>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_eq" value="4">
<restrict_add>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap2Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="1" dvdStorageProcessor="1" dataSetMonitorProcessor="0" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="1" fileStreamProcessor="1" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_eq" value="4">
<restrict_add>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap2Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="1" dvdStorageProcessor="1" dataSetMonitorProcessor="0" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="1" fileStreamProcessor="1" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_eq" value="4">
<restrict_add>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap4Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="3" dvdStorageProcessor="3" dataSetMonitorProcessor="1" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="2" fileStreamProcessor="3" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_eq" value="4">
<restrict_add>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap4Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="3" dvdStorageProcessor="3" dataSetMonitorProcessor="1" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="2" fileStreamProcessor="3" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_eq" value="4">
<restrict_add>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap4Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="3" dvdStorageProcessor="3" dataSetMonitorProcessor="1" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="2" fileStreamProcessor="3" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_eq" value="4">
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap4Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="3" dvdStorageProcessor="3" dataSetMonitorProcessor="1" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="2" fileStreamProcessor="3" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
<restrict_if name="cores" op="int_ge" value="4">
<restrict_add>
<threadStrategy parallelUpdateRender="true" workerMapFile="system/workerMap8Core.xml" forceFeedbackProcessor="3" dvdStorageProcessor="4" dataSetMonitorProcessor="5" renderProcessor="0" updateProcessor="2" fileStreamProcessor="7" />
</restrict_add>
</restrict_if>
Then save and run the game (i did so without any -novirtual or -safemode, and it works just fine!)

IAM SO HAPPY

Dear friends,

I had this same problem.
My system:
Core I7 965
GTX 295
EVGA X58 3-SLI
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB 1600

But the problem was solved when I installed the 1.2 patch, and used the no-cd crack for the 1.2 version of GRID.exe.
I tried everything before, but this is the only way I founded.

Now, the game starts to play, I can play some tracks. But when I finish the first race on carear mode, I click on "Continue" or "Retire", and it crashs and go back to the desktop. Very good, hum?!

I don't know what to do now!

Change the core nunmbers in the XML files, solved the problem to me, in the Colin Mcrae DIRT game. (another Codemasters bugged game)

But I changed from 8 to 4. Not from 4 to 2.
The Core i7 proc. has 8 cores.

I'll try the same...

I think that the game should adapt to us, and not us adapt to the game!
