Default HD4850 and minimum FPS in GRID

Hello, my average FPS is a steady 70FPS without any slow downs but if I just keep turning around and around with the car till all the screen has smokes, FPS will dip down to 40 FPS which I don't know why would that happen,I already tried with AA off and AA on but it doesn't has any effect, the FPS still dip down when there is smokes on all the screen. So is that a game limited problem or it is normal?

My current settings all @ High/Ultra + 4xMSAA @ 1440x900

Videocard: HD4850 1GB 730/2100
Processor: C2D 4.3GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800
XP SP3

It should be normal as GRID has a fairly complex particle system with smoke. Try disabling particles and see if that gives you a steady 70 FPS. If it doesn't, then there might be room for concern.

Ya the smoke and sand are the toughest on your computer. I was running at 1280x1024, 2xAA and Ultra settings except Particle setting set to High ( instead of Ultra ) and online I would still get a slow down and then jump to warp speed if there a lot of smoke or sand in the air.

Since dropping resolution down to 1024x768, I have no slow down online any more, even when the smoke is flying in a derby race.

Don't feel right buying DIRT 2 if others are getting screwed out of their hard earn dollars.
GFWL stole my game

Please Codemasters and Microsoft fix this injustice to online racing! Let the WHOLE world race online like we do with GRID and Flatout 2!! Will F1 use GFWL?

do you think if I upgrade my graphic card to HD4870 or GTX260, this slow down should be gone?

I don't know if buying a newer graphic card would fix this problem, but here a web page that compare the HD4870 and the GTX260 running GRID:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3415&p=7

And remember GRID is not SLI friendly if you are thinking of going that route. SLI mode on my computer lock up GRID.

AnandTech is the site I've been going to for many years when I need to research computer parts like MB, CPU and video card when I'm building a new computer.
