Default Grid won't start

Another thread with the same thing ... but I wonder if anyone can tell me what i haven't tried!

My system specs are:
Intel Q6600
4GB RAM
Shuttle SG31G2 (Intel G31 Chipset)
Sparkle nVidia 8800GT
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
Pioneer DVD-RW
Windows Vista Ultimate x64
(tried with both the latest and latest beta drivers)

When I try to load GRID i get this error

I've tried:
a) -novirtual and -safemode
b) Using the cracked .exe
c) Reinstalling the game
d) Inserting the CD after the "no disc" message
e) Clearing the save game files

The game DOES load in Windows 98 mode, but i cant change the screen res from 800x600??

Anyone got any more things I can try .. I really want to play this game but it looks hideous at 800x600 ... its stupid because the demo worked ok?!

My DxDiag is here: http://www.pastebin.ca/1042062

Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 12/11/2007

Your graphic card drivers are a little out of date. Update these from the Nvidia website

Is it possible to remove 1 stick of RAM? See if that works? Also, have you turned off the Vista nanny? The UAC (User account control) - you will find this in the security section.

The next thing you can try is right clicking on the GRID icon and selecting the compatibility tab, then select run as Administrator.

Its strikes me as rather odd why the game won't actually start.

I've tried it on another PC and the game works fine (AMD 4000+, 2GB RAM, nVidia 7900GS, Onboard Sound) , so the DVD isnt at fault.

I also tried it on this pc with a spare hard drive and a blank install of XP 32bit, still didnt work :|

I'll try removing 1 RAM stick now and report back, got 2 in at the mo

Have you tried turning hardware acceleration to off for your soundcard in the control panel or dxdiag?

I have the same problem as the original poster:

My system

Windows XP - 64 bit
Memory 3GB RAM DDR2-800
Intel Core Duo E6600
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB - Driver 175.16(latest) - updated to 6.0.1.1304
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic - Drivers 5.12.6.1187

Im also trying to upgrade the audio drivers and check if things get to work.

----

edit: I updated the audio drivers to the latest from soundblaster.com, still it does not work.

It launches, check the dvd is in the drive, and when it gets the positive check the application instead of launching the game, just exits.

I tried taking the dvd off the drive and it complains the dvd is not inside, so it seems the problem is launching the game itself, not checking the drive.

Also tried turning off sound hardware acceleration, or even launching the game in safe mode. Even excluded the grid.exe file from DEP (Data Execution Prevention) to give it full freedom. Nothing works so far.

Any ideas?

My DxDiag - http://pastebin.com/m3026a463 (lasts up for a month)

----

I downloaded a cracked version of the EXE and it works, so it is a problem with the protection not launching the game after succesfuly checking the DVD! darned protections!

Reduce your swap file to 2.5GB and try.
