Right i had a similar problem with Call Of Duty 4 and Crysis not starting so i got hold of securom and they sent me a fix and it works. Grid works fine on mine so maybe this maybe of some help to some of you. Here is the email they sent me
"Hello, Maybe a software conflict is caused by the sptd.sys device driver (usually installed with emulation tools like Daemon Tools or Alcohol120%). Could you please remove it with the setup form the link below and then try again to start the game? http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads " |

Not sure what they mean by "...Could you please remove it with the setup form the link below...". Surely the install they point to is going to install something and not remove anything...?

No its right when you start the setup it scans your pc for the sptd.sys if found gives you the option to install or uninstall it if not found uninstall is greyed out. If you dont want to install it you just close the window.

OK, I've just installed the game and I can't run it
![]() Attempt to run from 'Games' and I get the CD mouse pointer and DVD drive spins up... then... nothing. GRID.exe is in task manager and I have to kill it. I have Daemon Tools installed, but I've turned it off (might uninstall it too). I will try what you suggest GoonerUK and will report back. Not a happy bunny with this at all

OK, that didn't work
![]() It did uninstall the driver I had, but after a reboot it still won't start the game ![]() In fact, things are worse now as I don't get the spinning CD mouse pointer any more!

OK, I got it working!!!
It seems that SecuROM wants to install some sort of driver the first time you start the game. Under Vista, it seems that this fails (probably because of a security issue). I fixed this by doing the following : 1. Create a Shortcut for the game on the Quick Launch bar. 2. Right-Click shortcut and select 'Customise...' option. 3. Make sure 'Play (Play)' is selected and press the 'Edit' button. 4. In the 'Play Properties' dialog, select the 'Compatibility' tab. 5. Check the 'Run the program in compatibility mode for:' checkbox. 6. Select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)' from the dropdown list. 7. Press OK and then Close. Now use the shortcut to start the game. For me, when I did this, I dialog popped up asking for permission to install a driver for SecuROM (sorry can't remember exact name). After letting it do its stuff, the game launched! I just tried running the game again after turning off compatibilty mode, and it does not launch - you need to keep Compatibility mode selected for it to run (even after it has installed the driver). Hope this helps! <edit> Also works by selecting 'Run this program as administrator' in the 'Compatibility' tab described above. So you can use that instead of selecting 'Run this program in compatibility mode' checkbox. Can any of the Codies or Admins sticky this or maybe add to the FAQ? </edit>

Well, no such luck for me, same problem as you guys, click the icon, disk spins, then nothing. I uninstalled Daemon Tools and ran the SPTD and uninstalled the driver it found, then rebooted my system, but the game still refuses to run... I'm running XP Pro SP2 so no annoying Vista security measures than may be stopping something somehow, also turned off AV and everything, anything else you could suggest?
