Default GRID will not let me run 1680x1050

First of all, I would like to say GRID is an amazing game. By far definitely the best racing game I have played for the PC. However, limiting graphics settings is not the way to go.. Especially since I do have a 512MB graphics card (9800GTX) and I am still limited to only running no higher than 1280x800..

Well thats my problem. I have a 9800GTX with 512MB and GRID will not let me run the game at 1680x1050 resolution. I can play any game out there on my Q6600 @ 3.2GHz/4GB DDR2/9800GTX system but GRID will not let me run at my native resolution.

I have updated to patch 1.2 and it did nothing. I tried editing my hardware_settings_config.xml but it already says 1680x1050 in there so theres not much I can do..

Any help from CodeMaster themselves please?

Thanks

(edit) System specs:

2x2GB G.Skill PC2-8000
XFX 780i
eVGA 9800GTX
PC P&C 750W Silencer

CM Cosmos S
Creative X-Fi
Vista 64-bit Ultimate

BugMeNot, what Advance graphic settings you using? They could be part of the problem. Does game give you option to pick 1680x1050 and then crashes when it restart to new resolution or you don't see 1680x1050 resolution to pick from settings Menu?

Might try setting AA to OFF and use low graphic settings and see if GRID will let you pick 1680x1050. If that works, then work your way up from there with the settings. I only use 2xAA.

Edit: I agree with Fbzn, it better to have Vsync ON than have it set to OFF.

So, your desktop is 1680*1050@60Hz (frequency is important).

When you launch your game, did you precise to keep Vsync or not ?

If no, then set the Vsync to Yes.

I had a trouble with my 8800GT, changing graphic drivers, some resolutions (even under desktop) had disappeared and i had to re-enter them in the Nvidia panel.

But when i say "resolutions", it's also a mix between resolution and frequency. Maybe Grid is trying to launch a 1680*1050 resolution but at 75Hz and it does not work, so if you're sure your desktop is at 1680*1050@60Hz, you've got to force grid to adopt the same resolution AND the same frequency.

I'm not too sure about advanced graphics settings but the default was almost all high and I changed a few settings to Ultra because it does not lag anyways.

When I set 1680x1050 in the in-game settings, it asks me to restart and upon restart it confirms if I want to use 1680x1050. I click yes and the game continues onto loading however the game is still really 1280x800. I also tried 1440x900 which caused the same thing to happen.

I backed up my game profile and reinstalled yesterday because I had the demo of GRID before and I thought the config of that might be conflicting with the retail copy so I uninstalled both then reinstalled the retail GRID but the problem is still there.

My Vsync is turned off and I use 8XCSAA.

Let me try turning AA off and Vsync on.

(edit) I just tried turning AA off and Vsync is on but I still cannot run 1680x1050. I have also tried both aspect ratios of normal and 16:10.

When you are speaking about your config file, you are speaking of this one ?

C:\Documents and Settings\*User*\My documents\Codemasters\GRID\hardwaresettings\hardwa re_settings_config

(Maybe not "my documents" but "my folders", I do not know the equivalent in english).

BugMeNot, After GRID restart game in 1680x1050 ( 60 refresh rate setting ) and you click yes, you go to Graphic Settings menu and it says, 1280x800 not 1680x1050, correct?

I find this:

If you look in your game directory for system/hardware_settings_restrictions.xml you should see a tag at the bottom of the file called "res". If you delete this line you should be able to run at all the resolutions your graphics card supports. Just be wary that running at high resolutions with high levels of multisampling might cause your game not to run properly.

In your case, you shouldn't experience any problems running at 1650 x 1050 with 2xmsaa.
Here what my line look like:

- <data>
<res mem="270" maxWidth="1280" />
</data>

If delete this line <res mem="270" maxWidth="1280" /> and monitor blowsup....

Make copy of hardware_settings_restrictions.xml before making the change.

Yes that one, along with this one:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Codemasters\GRID\system\hardware_settings_re strictions.xml

I have changed the maxWidth="1280" to maxWidth="1680" and it did not work.

Nope, it says 1680x1050 even though its really 1280x800.
