Default Minstrels love to Gossip (first meeting Dec, Sat 22nd!)

Cerras tuned up his lute and started playing a quiet, romantic melody. There was a girl sitting across the room, a very pretty lass of blond hair, blue eyes and air of confidence and influence. She seemed to like the melody and Cerras sent in her direction one of his most charming smiles, adjusting the music a bit – so now the flowing melody seemed to question the girl… But she wasn’t alone, no.. Such ladies of quality seldom travel alone. This one had no less than 3 companions – grim looking warriors, who – Cerras thought – were probably good at killing, but didn’t know much about entertaining ladies. Really, up here in the north, people were so unrefined…
But who was she? What was her name? She had to be important, so why hadn’t he heard about her yet… Information is vital, both in love and war and something had to be done about it. Cerras sat there, in a cozy corner of the inn, wondering, smiling and thinking…

OOC, kinda

First, let me introduce myself – I’m Cerras, of Gondor, but let’s change the subject now. My is a boring story. Really. Maybe you’ve already heard me shouting strange things on global lff… But most likely, I’m as anonymous as everyone.

I’ve been traveling around Eriador for some time now, meeting great people (really – I’m very positively surprised) and only one or two idiots. I love random RP, but there is something Laurelin seems to lack – a community (or maybe I’m looking in wrong places), but back in WoW (moonglade) things used to be different.

What am I rambling about? One of the reasons I decided to play LOTRO is the minstrel – the idea, RP possibilities behind this class are mindblowing. Minstrels are the ones who are supposed to restore morale (and I don’t mean the green bar) in the dark times that are coming. But mistrels are also artists – storytellers, clowns, singers and whatnot. And so it happens that artists circles usually know what’s going up with fellow artists – after all they’re competition. And when they meet, they love exchanging juicy gossip…

Okay NOW IT’S THE IMPORTANT PART

I’m proposing two things

1) Minstrel meetings: We can came up with a fancy name later, but the idea is to meet once a week, around Bree (easy access) and just RP, gossip, exchange new songs and have general fun. Of course everyone, not only minstrels, is invited. Time and place – we can discuss it later in this thread.
2) Gossip channel – now I know that some people think that rping in kinchat or general channels is a bit ‘not realistic’ and partially I agree with them, but not today. Gossip channel would be the true community builder – you see somebody die in a funny way? Tell there about it! You see somebody got a new title/item/crafted something extraordinary? Tell us about it! You think there is something going between mr.X and mrs. Y? NOW that’s what we really want to know!

And… if you think ‘it’s not going to work’ – at least give us a chance to fail!

I love the idea. My character might not be the gossiping type, but I would gladly provide a location for your evening; The Fingel's Quest tavern in Bree-land Homes, 1 Broadford Street, Rodstead.

It might not have the largest interior, but it's got a large yard at its disposal as well with comfortable tables to sit at and delicious brews to drink for the guests, gossips are best told with a brew, eh?

Contact me in-game for further conversation on the subject

Quoted for truth! Too many times are good ideas hammered down by those who have already given up.

I think it's a really good idea with a weekly meeting. I will be sure to try and make it, if such a meeting was arranged.

Not sure I like the gossip-channel idea, but I am sure some others will, so give it a try.
I have plenty of channels to keep an eye on, and I would hate having a gossip channel, if I missed half the stuff there because I was busy slaying monsters something like that...
If I want to gossip, I will prefer to do it whole-heartedly, that means sitting together with the people I gossip with around a table full of ale and pies.

True! I'd prefer to do it so too, but the problem is always the same - limited time. I'd love to both sit by the fire, talking AND having adventures (usually it means dying in strange places). When (look! I'm optimistic!) we meet (the tavern mention above is a fantastic idea) we'll swap gossips the normal way. The channel is well... for things happening 'meanwhile'. Realism be damned, it doesn't exist in any mmo - night and day take only 3hrs, Frodo and his bunch grew roots in Rivendell and so on. BUT news circulate - you overhear things here, or there, from npcs and so on. That's what the channel represent.
Well, that's the theory

I like the idea of weekly meetings, it's a nice initiative indeed. I'm looking forward to hear more about how it will progress.

I have to say I am not in favour of the channel though. Like someone else said, I, too, have many channels to keep an eye on, and having another one blinking in front of me would only be disruptive. I would probably turn it off in one point and forget about it complitely. However, you could start a gossip thread here on the forums, maybe create a forum tavern travellers could be passing through and hear bits and pieces of news from people coming from all over Middle-earth. I don't know how actively people of Laurelin read these forums, but people could nudge their fellow role-players to have a look every now and then.

Sounds like fun!

Also a great way to somewhat enrich my character. The poems are fun and all, but I'd like to add a bit more than that, and gossip would probably really be her thing! Though maybe mister Wulfryck wouldn't appreciate if I told everyone he was spotted wearing bright red pants finished with yellowish leather, together with a dark green and baby blue cloak. How silly!

I'm all in favour of this idea, just yell a date and place and I'll be there.

And indeed Liria: I think master Wulfryck would object, but he does look like a color blind circus clown, doesn't he?
