Hi this is kinda related, honest no please listen....look give me a chance to explain.
I went out and bought it last week, have played it and find it extremely frustrating getting used to the interface and trying to control the extra players. I have been spoilt, a few weeks ago I was tempted to quit the DnD online stuff now I have again reconsidered, NWN2 will have to be my back up game for when the server is getting updated. The story appears great and I like the look but can't control the flipping chars. Give me the old NWN interface with the ellipse controls......!!!!

Well this is entirely your opinion but saying a game is a waste of money due to a single feature, is kinda harsh imho.
I personally like that you get the control of NPCs at times and also are able to alter their behavioral aspects/modes. Yes, indeed some things in NWN2 still need fixing but I would never claim the game sucks. Just because of the fact NWN2 and DDO are both based on the D&D game and are PC games, doesn't mean that they can be compared. One is an MMO based on questing, the other is mainly an RPG. It's as if comparing any of the two to "Eye of the Beholder" for GBA, a game which *sucked* big time. I own NWN2 and DDO and I did not quit DDO in order to play NWN2 because I knew the experience was different in each of the two.

I've heard some very, very negative reviews over at Sorcerer's Place, which are so overwhelming that I won't even bother buying the game.

Now where have I heard that before.
I also bought NWN2 and have found it very hard work. It has major problems with speed of play and feels like slow motion even at lowest setting. Not sure why it needs such high graphics specs as NWN original graphics were much better and did not require the high spec and to be honest graphics arent great. The AI is also a major pain and has taken ages to get it to start behaving. Secret appears to be to hold shift and right click your toon to get the broadcast command function. This lets you tell the toons to attack, stay follow etc. Had major problens with the modes stuff as seems to not work properly. Stick to the commands bit as this mirrors the old NWN commands circle. The plot so far has been linear and feels vaguely familiar. (just waiting to find out toon has an evil brother/ father and you are related to the rogue) I am however enjoying it now that I have got the hang of the awful AI system. May even consider getting the sorcoress back in the party now I can (hopefully) stop her spamming fireballs and getting mobbed. When I play it I have to admit I see it as BG3 or IWD3 not NWN2. it has more in common with Baldurs Gate that NWN. Perhaps that will be different once I can get into an online game with PC's rather than NPC's to play with. Persevere with it and once you crack the AI it will flow better. last thing should this be in this forum rather than the off topic DnD one? Redemption |

Its my opinion mate, so it's ok that you dissagree.
All I am getting at is it does not deliver in my opinion a next generation game, I have a 3 GZ 2GB RAM with dual graphics cards and the graphics are not that hot. The fact that I always end up looking at walls instead of the characters view is annoying, I am still playing with camera angles to sort that out but it is flawed and I look forward to any updates bug fixes for this. As to DND online I have found a group of regulars DIDOO ELBRETH and others ROCK ON DUDES.

I am firmly in the camp that it is a potentially good game, desperately flawed by and appaulling camera set up and an unnecessarily clunky interface.
It would be nice to be able to customise the interface..... As for NPC AI, anything other than "do nothing" appears to be suicidal.

I must admit I had little interest in buying NWN2, but as more and more I hear it is more like BG3 it gets me more tempted to buy it.

I've the game, bought it when i had a 8 hour back/forth train trip with work and had to do something to relax. so i played the 8 hours, and found the AI to be incompetent. allways running off. Also I liked the original game graphics more, i played it on my laptop and the camera control and movement wasn't as smoothe as i would like them.
i haven't really played it anymore since, so that's a bit of money out the window. I've installed it on my desktop PC but i haven't played it. also i found the rest function to be too easy to use. ohh so the bandits camp are cleared but their boss' is in the big house. i go in, clear a room or two. exit through the door, rest in the middle of the enemy camp, go back in, etc. but it's more strict to the pnp game than DDO, but that just means that you level very fast (almost true to the 13.3 encounter per level) I prefer a bit slower leveling.
