I'm having the same problem here when it is loading the track, the screen with the driver stats loads fine but the change over from stats to race is when I have to close the program using the task manager. I've turned down all the settings for video and that helped once but it keeps doing it now and then. I've just installed the patch so I'll have to get back on this with any luck that will take care of the problem. LOVE the game! Also have the ToCa3 game, keep up the good work codemaster!
Well, ran the update and the same thing is happening. I tried to run in "safe mode" but it still Stops responding just before the map loads. Bummer!! Any help would be cool!

This is what I would do.
Uninstall the game and if you don't mind loosing your saved games say yes, to delete them as well. Fresh reinstall, do not run game, and add patch 1.21, run game. It doesn't hurt to: clean out your drive before doing a defrag and making sure you're connected to the internet with firewall access for Dirt, if you have to.

Thanks XLR8TR,
I had thought of that, but was resisting. hehehe Guess it is better to do it now with only 2 1/2 tiers open. The rally's are killer! But able to run in Pro Am on some of the course, so it should not take to long to open the tracks back up. I did try to turn down some of the setting for the game pulled the optical sound and video that did help. Still have the shadows an other candy turned on but mostly medium. Was hoping the GTS 8600 with the 3.2mhz would run at 1080 and it does, but laggy. That could be the Sharp LCD also because of the 60hz refreash rate. Thanks again for the info, Arooster

what graphics settings do you have the game set at? its most likelly the graphics card you have, its a pretty low end card, and DiRT is a verrrry high end game. It will freeze if there are not enough shaders free to cover everything on screen, switch graphics and res down as far as pos. and turn shadows OFF - they guzzle most of the available shaders and will bugger the view up pretty badly. The rest looks okay, if you have a decent motherboard, go into the bios and find T2, and switch it to T1 so it pages faster (y) |

i am having problems with DiRT freezing as well i can get into the races but shortly after i start racing it freeze's i have turned all graphics settings down and also changed the audio to software the only thing i can think of is overheating that might be causeing it we have had a few hot days here of late and it has only started doing it i hope its not overheating i am running it on a toshiba laptop so actually changing the cooling might be a problem any other suggestions besides a reinstall (dont really want to start again i only got 2 rally's left to finish) updated drivers mgiht be a problem as well cant mind my card on the ati website mobility 2600 HD
