Talking DiRT 2 3D YouTube Videos

First of all, here is a YouTube video on "3D free viewing":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XcOIX098fE

Some of you may feel left out not knowing what games look like in 3D. So, here is you opertunity to see what it is all about.

I have uploaded a couple of videos to YouTube which were recorded in 3D. The first one is in pretty poor quality but it is sometimes easier to start with the smaller videos and work your way up.

Mali Alan Pass in 3D:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VdVSL7ZaUM

The next one is a high quality version of a run through Ladang Long in 3D:

When you are properly utilizing the cross-eyed "3D free view" method, you should see something like this:

The videos posted above are displayed on this website in their cross-eyed form. To view them in their larger version and to have other 3D viewing options, click the link below each video.

When you click the YouTube link, you will be presented with the same videos, but they will be displayed differently than you see them here. Do not be alarmed; let me explain. On YouTube their default displayed form is for use with anaglyph (different colored) glasses. Below each video on YouTube is a 3D viewing method drop-down menu. If you have a pair of anaglyph glasses, you can choose the proper filtering color and view the video in 3D.

If you do not have any special glasses for viewing in 3D, choose the cross-eyed item (the form you see displayed on this website). This method takes some getting used to, but anyone can do it and it requires no special hardware or glasses -- so it is the most universal method.

It helps to start with the video in its small version from a distance of 3-5 feet. Cross your eyes until you see three images. The middle image you see is a virtual image composed of the two images. Focus on the middle image to enjoy the 3d experience.

Once you get used to it, you can view the larger/higher quality versions in full screen mode. The larger the image, the farther away you should view it in order to prevent too much eye strain.

Here are a couple other DiRT 2 videos in 3D which I did not create:

What method are you using? If you didn't notice, or didn't read my post entirely, there is a drop-down menu located below the video to choose the best method to suit you. If you don't have anaglyph glasses, choose the cross-eyed method. If you do have anaglyph glasses, you have to pick the right kind (color) for the effect to work.

Cross-eyed "3d free viewing" is explained in more detail in the video I linked to at the bottom of the first post.

I'm sorry, what did you say ty? I couldn't read that last part with my eyes crossed.

No seriously, tried it that way and even at the rec distance I didn't get the desired effect. And yes, I know how to cross my eyes.

I've been skeptical of the evolution of 3D tech for some time. I think I'll just wait until they have displays that project a hologram.

By then all products will have RFID tags, stores will display holographic ads for products you might like as you pass by ala Minority Report, and I'll be too paranoid to use ANY high tech devices.

I could alway just go back to riding cliff edge trails on my mt bike and drinking beer fireside afterward. Might actually be more safe than the alternative at that point.

Meh.

If it doesn't work for you right away and you don't want to push your eyes, that is fine.

If you have the full blown 3D kit like myself and at least one other person on this forum, you can enjoy 3D without needing to cross your eyes and potentially do damage to your eyes after extended periods of strain.

I only wished to include you guys in the experience as best I could.

I do not own anaglyph glasses and have never tried that method, so if any of you do, I would like to know your results. I wonder how hard it is to find a pair of anaglyph glasses locally. Hmm...

I must reiterate and stress that you must choose "cross-eyed" from the 3d view drop-down menu below the videos to view it by this method without glasses. If you do not choose the cross-eyed option, it is impossible to use this method for 3d viewing and you will only be wasting your time. If it is correct, you should see two videos side by side. At that point, cross your eyes until you see a third video between those two videos. This third video must be focused on.

Some of you guys around here like to drink. You might find the videos easier to view in 3D in a few hours.

At the time of Winter War and continuation war (WWII) my father used stereo-binoculars to measure distance to the target, as he was within artillery.
There are not many people who has capability to adjust their eyes to "cross-eyes".
Luckily I did inherit it from him.
It is fascinating sometimes spooky. You know those pictures with dots in different colours.
Looking at them, in right way, they do become 3D.

The same, except you don't have to cross your eyes.

I recorded the videos with NVIDIA's 3D vision turned on; so what you see is the result -- only you are using a different method to see the outcome.
