timing or server problems during races ?!?

hello !
i would pleased to now if the problems in some races ( own disconnection ) are server problems or if the problem is on my side caused of a slow ( too long PING ) DSL-connection ?
i have problems in some games ( platform independent ) that there are too much problems with disconnections or game-freezes caused on the online-connection .
it seems to be only ( ? ) on console-games . i never had a disconnection or game-freeze on pc-online-games ( like trackmania or carom3d f.e. ) .
