Default Block Problem?

So when I rolled my Fighter I wanted him to be sword and board tank. So did not put any points into tumble given that heavy armours and tower shield will nullify this...

Anyway. It used to be that when I blocked and hit a directional key he would hop forward, backward or side to side with his shield raised.

Now I noticed that he can only seem to go sideways or backwards when his shield is up - tapping a forward directional button no longer works.

Thinking it was because of the tower, I tried him without the shield equipped and he still won't block/forward.

I checked all mapped keys were on default (they are) and wonder if I am the only one who has noticed or if something has gone wrong.
