Default CMR4 - great expectations but...

There´s a long time i didn´t came to this forum. And i only returned because i want to say to you (trully) rally fans that cmr4 must be very very good after the cmr3 disapointment. I´ve been playing v-rally3 on my xbox, and having and played all the rally games in the last 6 years, i have to say that codemasters must learn a lot with v-rally3, not he handling or graphics, but the bumpy roads and narrow stages, when you go on a long straight you can´t go flat out and that´s awesome. Another important point is that cmr4 must have mirrored and reversed tracks to give the game more longevity, and the replay system is very important. We all hope that it´ll be the best cmr game ever.

It'll certainly be a big test for Codies but I think they'll come over it. They aren't exactly going to rush it after CMR3 -- that's my hope anyway.

Really, there's no way CMR3 was as bad a game as so many made out. It just had some pivotal features missing, for reasons that were hard to understand (eg. not much on offer in Career Mode, lack of multiplayer). The driving wasn't bad, it was just inferior to CMR2.

CMR3 fail because the lack of options, but I think that codemasters read this forum and will change that for CMR4.

WRC2 is a very good game but I prefer the handling of CMR3. On WRc2 you never lost the control of the car, is a little bit stange.
I play WRC2 a lot more than CMR3 but only because CMR3 is a short game and WRC2 have a lot more options.

I agree with you.

CMR3 makes in comparison to CMR2 three steps backwards. Now it's interesting to see how many steps forward makes CMR4 !

I'd just like to see them be less cautious. The Career Mode in CMR3 was like a more mudane version of what was already in V-Rally 3, albeit where you only had the choice of one driver and one car. Codies proved with CMR2 that when they have the brains put together right they can produce works of art. I'd just like to see something that little bit different to the rest. There are so many rally games nowadays and they all seem to be promising the same thing -- well-known WRCars, WRC countries, damage effects, Career modes, multiplayer, tweaking to cars etc... it just feels so samey. After CMR3 they need something about it that'll really get our heads up.

That said, the likes of GT3 go a long way to proving you can have an unoriginal game and still be a success if the in-game driving parts are beautifully crafted.

I totally agree. I haven't seen any improvement in CMR3 over CMR2 at all.

The MOST annoying thing in CMR3 is that I have great difficulties to see the road on some of the UK Special Stages: the colour of the road is almost the same as the colour of the surrounding grass. They clearly haven't thought about that 10% of all men are color-blind to some degree.

Another major issue is that you don't know if you're driving faster or slower than the other drivers if you happen to lead the championship. That made CMR 2 much more fun to drive, even if it maybe wasn't ultra-realistic.

There's no 2-player mode where you can see the car of your opponent - not even as a ghost car. And if you play 2-player, then it's 2-player ONLY without the option of adding computer cars. Boring.

Many small things have been changed to the worse, like the delay when you view the track info or check your car damage. In CMR 2, all info appeared immediately.

If CMR 4 fixes these issues, I might give it a try, even if I'd hoped for network play. But this time, I'll try it out in a shop before I buy it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention another small thing that's missing: In CMR2, you could see two co-driver arrows on screen simultaneously, which made driving a lot easier, especially when forced to play with sound off. In CMR 3, there's only one arrow. Why?

I never had a problem seeing the road. Sorry, must suck to be color blind.

I turn the arrows off in all my rally games.
