Default Demo Error

Hi all,

Here is the error that most people are getting with the demo.

Application popup: PC_CMR5: CMR5.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x0056ea55" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

Someone from CM should look into this. Running DX9.0c, ATI Cats 4.8

So whats the deal??? Not another ATI hating game I hope...

***** FIX

Fixed the problem. Its all down to refresh rates. If you have changed the refresh rate in XP with "reforce" then you need to set it back to the defaults and all will be well...

Hope this helps someone here....

Just check the banners all around the starting area

Here the demo runs fine on my Radeon 9600, but WITHOUT amazing blur effects. Which, in turn, makes it an add-on for CMR'04. I tried to switch back and forth between this demo and 04, same car, same tires, UK stage during sunny day and wooops! Which one was the latest release again?

Interesting info, on my 9700 with latest drivers i've yet to see bluring effects when hitting anything, though i do see bluring at the beginning of the UK stage prior to being put into the car.. which looks very bad and over the top imho, as the car is very crisp but all around is very blurred.

There is alot of Nvidia singnage in the game isnt there - Nvidia must have paid a few coppers for that in-game advertising didnt they.

Tried demo on work 1,4ghz pentium 4, geforce 4 mx 440 error.
Tried at home, 2,8Ghz GeForce FX 5700 256 MB, works like a charm.
I read in readme that graphic card must support pixel shading. Maybe it foes some checks before starting the game, so I hope that they fix this in final release.

The readme explicitly states that the demo is not compatible with the GeForce MX range (the "value" line of GeForce cards).

I know that's not the whole issue, as my Ti4400 crashes out as well, but I thought I'd mention it since I've seen several people listing their card as an MX.

I own the GeForce FX 5200 PCI and have no problems.
So an AGP version should work even better.
And why arenīt MX cards supported anymore?
Why are pixel shaders absolutely neccesary now?
