Default Burgling... alone.

So a few days ago someone was looking for people to help do the Book 1, Chapter 11 quest - they had 3 people already, a Guardian and 2 Minstrels. I needed the quest myself so sent a tell to the group leader and was slightly shocked when he said that the group was now full. While perfectly plausible with the amount of people around the same level, finding that a group had found 3 people literally after asking for more players about 10 seconds previously was quite amazing. What was more amazing was the fact that shortly after him telling me the group was now full, he continued to seek more members in the LFF channel stating that his group was still 1 Guardian and 2 Minstrels. Politely, I sent him another tell asking if his group was full or not, he ignored me and continued to ask for more players...

A day or so ago, I needed a group for the Weavers Beneath the Ruins quest in the Lone Lands, as everyone does, I stated my level and class in the LFF channel and awaited a reply while gathering some wood. I noticed another player calling for the same quest, he had a Champion and a Loremaster - I sent him a tell and was ignored, I sent another incase he had a sudden influx and I was also ignored. Again, he continued to call for more players.

This has happened to me fairly often with entirely different people and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same or if I've somehow annoyed an entire server? I consider myself to be a good player, I've played numerous MMORPG's before and understand how teamwork is a huge factor in staying alive or dying. I always make sure I know what role a fellow will be playing in a group, whether or not stunning an enemy will be needed, what to do on conjunctions etc. Being only in the early/mid 20 level range I'd like to think I havent earned myself a server-wide bad reputation somehow.

Being that I play on [EN-RP] Laurelin, and am fully aware of the mix of Rp'ers and non Rp'ers I've even taken to posting messages in the LFF channel in and out of character to see if the RPness is freaking non-Rp'ers out but it's the same situation I find myself in. Currently the only way I've been able to complete the majority of my group quests is to gain a few levels above what they're recommended for and then solo them, which makes quests rewards very obsolete.

So yeah, I'd kind of like to hear what everyone elses experience is. After playing a healer class in every other MMO I've played maybe it's just getting used to not being as desired anymore, never thought it'd be to this extent though.

Ive had no problems with groups at level 40+, in fact often enough ive had a shocked response when joining when saying that we are rare and really useful :P

There probably just underestimating burglars at low levels cause they dont know the advantages of them, because imo for the best group set up it should be Guardian, Minstrel AND burglar. Specially for those elite quests.

The game itself is still new and also attracts new player. Which means that there is a good number of people who lacks the basic knowledge of the game.
And I think you were a bit unlucky. Burglar is a fairly useful class, especially when elites are involved. So far i've never had trouble finding groups. I usually get the "Yay! A burglar " response when i join a group.
You need to be patient and stick with your burglar. Dont let a couple of players, who thinks "hunterz and champs are da bomb !", cool you off from the class.

I think you have been very unlucky. There are probably many people who only want classes who can deal and take damage (hunters, champions, guardians) and heal (minstrels). Those don't see the benefit of having a burglar. I don't play aburglar myself, but I think it's great to have them in your group, especially when you are fighting elites. The fellowship maneuvers can really save the group, when you otherwise would fail. Sadly, there are many people who don't see that.

Yes, it must definetly be people who lack knowledge of the different classes and thus have a very one-dimensional view on building fellowships. I haven't had any problems getting into any group, on the contrary I've gotten several direct questions in tells if I want to join (although I'm not sure if it was due to my class every time). I would agree with the theory that the best group has a guardian, a minstrel and a burglar while the last three aren't as set in stone.

That said minstrels will probably always be the most sought after class. It's also the fact that no class is absolutly necessary for most quests. I've been in undermanned groups without both guardians and minstrels and we have still prevailed using different tactics to cover up our weaknesses. All classes are definetly able to be useful in groups, no doubt about that.

Sorry to hear you having this trouble but yes I do believe it is the fact that many players just have no idea what a Burglar can contribute to a fellowship. The crowd control, the dps, the debuffs are so useful. When you start getting a few more conjunction starting abilities, a Burglar is just invaluable in any team IMO. We just couldn't do without one on the elite quests, and a Burglar just initiates a conjunction on demand when all is lost...and turns defeat into victory when we all suddenly pop up to full power again! Burglars are bloody ace, and any group that thinks one has no place in their their fellowship deserves to fail.

Stick with dude, as one day you will be making your own group and turning down those people before you who thought you had no use

If anyone questions the use of a Burglar, just challenge them to spar....

When they get their arse handed to them they may reconsider...

I have not found this at all.. its quite the other way round...

Every time i have got into a party, people have been saying "ah great a burglar, this should be easy etcetc"

Thing is... burglars are quite low on the ground, i have never actually been in a party with another burglar lol...

But yeh, conjunctions, 4-5 buffs on mob, crowd control, stuns...OH and superb DPS to rival a hunter, i think i stay burglar

Also i left a party the other day.. and they were all like "Gr8... this is going to be hard now, you sure you have to go"....

Burglar FTW

and not to forget - even if things go way bad and wipe is unavoidable - who is last man (or hobbit) standing, maybe still killing one more mob to make the next attempt easier - well guess who!
