Be Very Careful with what you buy

A word of warning about buying expensive things from shops in DDO. The interface for doing so is very limited (aka poorly designed) and the slightest mistake can be costly.



Fare Trade in House Denith

After searching for ages and playing for ages I found lots of fancy swords but no fancy maces or morningstars so I saved up all my gold. In Fare trade I found the mace of my Dreams. +1 Holy Heavy Mace of Power for a little over 22,000. I checked I was high enough level to use it and I was. So I paid the 22k and tried to Equip it.



YOU ARE NOT THE RIGHT RACE



I did not realise that the mace was Halfling only. Lets face it the level restrictions are common place but race limitations (with the exception of warforged armor) are pretty uncommon. I missed it. OK its my stupid fault and I have wasted 22k on a useless item that takes up a bank slot. Guess I will have to either sell it to another player or just accept the loss or make a halfling fighter just to make use of it (sigh!)

I am certain I would not have made this mistake if:

The limitation information (level and race) was a different text colour

or

The NPC salesman warned you if the item was not useable by you or refused to sell it. As the very least a confirmation window would be nice




I did bring my plight to a GM who was unable to help as it was my mistake (although the poor delivery of information pertaining to the limitations of this item is not my fault at all).


Another good piece of advice would be never shop after hours of play when your are tired.

I took the flaming mace (obviously) - guess what? It was also HALFLING ONLY



I don’t swear often - - - - - I did then.





I must ask - are there any human only weapons. Is this halfling only thing some kind of Stormreach only racism.

Are there any dwarf/elf/human/warforged specific weapons or armor? (excluding docets)

My halfling rogue wears elf only gloves of +dex and +lockpicking.

If you were really bothered you could take a few ranks in UMD and keep retrying til you rolled a 14 (DC listed on the item being the UMD DC)

The umd tip works, and i have to say that the race requirement lowers the level requirement. So it would be lvl 6 if it had no race requirement

The best would be if they add the race to the name eg

Halfling +1 Holy heavy mace of power 1, would be a long name but an alarming one.

or make the rquirements text in red. This would show an alarm too.

I got a +3 Rapier Warforged only.
But the good thing is, im a bard with max Use Magic Device Skill.

Happened to me in beta, so I am warned now. But you are right, a clear warning is needed here.

I agree items that are not useable due to race, class, alignment and level should either be marked with red text or shaded out in grey. This should apply to shops and the trade with player window.
