View Full Version : Drawn weapons in town...

I suggest that all players must have sheated weapons when they are in town (near the guards at least.) Right now the game looks like Meridian 59 when you get into a Tavern... all has drawn weapons and looks ready to smash in some heads.
Like in Never Winter Nights mod where the guards tells you to put away the weapons three times before they arrest you...
And I would also sitable chairs and beds in the inn... You should sit down and drink some ale and eat some nice food on a plate with your friends after a quest...
All things this MMORPS lacks are the real feeling of a roleplaying game when it comes to these details... Fix this or the World Of Warcraft will win over DDO. I am serious here... perfect graphic but some poor things we hardcore gamers want is more important than graphics!

I agree with that.
But I also want to mention the emote about sheathing your weapons... It is damn poor! It's just like your character rises her/his arm and the weapon is gone. A better disign emote (as they are the dancing, the bow or the wave) should be implemented.

Thandar, true hardcore gamers arnt interested in minor things like whether their weapons are sheathed or not. I'm assuming english isn't your first language, but the things you want are more roleplay features and while i agree it would be nice to have these things added, i would much rather the devs concentrated on newer more varied content. New quests, new mobs, new weapons, new armours, new spells, new npcs and new zones rather then new novelety toys

I certainly disagree with MoxArken and agree with Thandar. I would love to have more RP features in this game, and that includes the ability to sheath weapons and have them appear on my body.

ahhh sorry, my bad.
Devs screw creating actual game content. Just make an interactive chat room.
</Sarcasm>
Terminus have the decency to actually read my post before disagreeing with it. I said while it would be nice to have them, i would much rather have actual game content.
I'm not only a roleplayer but also a person who wants to play the game he is paying for. you might be quite happy to sit in a Inn for the evening, pretending to be Dana Longlegs, the Elven Cleric of the Goddess of Stripping, wiggling your avatars body in time with the music, and picking which dance style your char is going to wiggle too. Me personnally, i'd rather be pummeling the forces of evil, screaming for righteous power to destroy said evil.
If you want more emotes use the wonderful emote command its /em then whatever you want your character to do. feel free to abuse it, check out the phoenix tavern, it only has the one quest in it, so you wont have to worry about people playing for the dungeon content coming in and not joining in your chat...sorry i mean roleplay.
And i'm sure you must have been told this a million times already but RTFM the command /Sheath puts your friggin weapons away. I discovered this on my first day playing, along with the ability to change the chat windows.

Are you playing a paladin by any chance? :)

Actually no...a cleric. Paladins can have swords so it would be less pummeling and more general slaughtering...which to be honest does sound pretty good so i might do that on my alt.

I did read it, and I still disagree. I would rather have more RP elements (which IS actual game content) before levels 11-20 are included.

I AM a roleplayer and I would rather have the game I am paying for - that is a ROLEPLAYING game. You might be happy to zerg and rush your way through the quests, in your quest for 'uber lewt' and being the first to level 10. Personally, I would rather take my time, enjoy the ambiance, the story and the interaction with my fellow players.

If you want to enjoy zerging through quests, doing the same thing over and over again for experience, you have plenty of content already. Maybe we should petition for people like you to be given extra xp if you can run through an instance in extra quick time. That way you would level quicker and become 'uber' sooner, and maybe then go back to WoW.

Unfortunately you didn't gain the ability to read (did you learn how to customize chat windows by random button smashing, or is that just how you appraoch the game generally?). /sheath does not put the weapons on your body - they magically disappear.

Random button bashing? right clicking on a window? seemed pretty obvious to me...but hey.
Zerging through the game? Hardly, i'm level 4, i'm enjoying taking my time and doing the quests. which is what i want to play, the quests. I'm all for taking my time over the quests, i just dont have any interest in sitting in the Taverns and talking about doing epic things. I actually want to do the epic things, I want more dungeons to crawl through. If you read my post you will realise that i wasn't dismissing having extra emotes, I just dont think it should be put squarely at the top of the to do list. These are added niceities, not essential gameplay factors. content is. Dungeon Content is what will build this game, not gimmicks. emotes are just gimmicks. there fun but not essential.
And also just for the record, emotes are not a necessity to roleplay. Just your imagination. you can do very good roleplay in a IRC chat room.

So why do you need more dungeon content, if you are nowhere near seeing what is already in the game? The content I am asking for would be immediately available to everyone, irrespective of level.

And you can equally well play hack and slash in an IRC chat room too. Admitedly one of you will have to be DM and have lots of dice... but hey, use your imagination!

Agree here as well. They say it`s a roleplaying game then it should be a roleplaying game. Especially when they say you can throw away the orginal PnP game for playing this Stormreach... (BAH) If you think you`re a ROLEPLAYER because you know how to smash a head in with a hammer in a dark dungeon you are way to far from the core of a real roleplaying game. Bashing a monster or two is roleplaying but a game with only bashing monsters, open door and such things without the feeling in between is absolutly no roleplaying game. IT`S AN ACTION GAME!

Levelling is fun only if you have a goal. When you have reached level 10 what do you do then? Roleplaying is playing a characther that lives and has it own goals and ambitions... If you`re 12 years old you maybe don`t understand what a Roleplaying is about...

Hehe! Agree here as well! Play Diabolo!

Well said... Don`t waste more energy on this child. He is no real roleplayer... just a bonker... :)

You have no clue why most of us paying for this game? You don`t understand what we are talking about here. I think you don`t even know what a real PnP roleplaying game is. Do you know what a 1D20 is???
You are a hardcore Diabolo player (If you are old enough...) What you need is an action game. You are in the wrong place for that!

Jeez - the ddo forums bring out more flamers per post than any other game I have ever played lol... I guess its because the game brings together people from 2 very different standpoints. Anyway, for the record, im with the Roleplayers though it doesn't really bother me if the graphics for any given emote are a bit lame. Things that do bother me (and are sortof related)...
1) Everyone always having their weapons drawn
2) Everyone running everywhere - destroys the tension that should be apparent when you actually SHOULD be running somewhere (ie. away).
Just my 2cp.

Well I am no damn Betaplayer :(. I have played alot of Online "RPGs" in my days and most of the games SUCKS big time. This game doesn`t suck, actually it`s great (when you are in a dungeon with the booming DM voice in your head.) :)
Graphics is great, atmosphere is right but there is a BIG HOLE in the game. As usual the game is released before the basics are finnished. There is 10 000 things that needs to be fixed and it will take years for the poor team to do it.
Climbing is also great... traps... well ... *Sigh* :(
I wonder if the DDO team was locked into a basement a year or so? I get extremely fustrated about alot of things. One is the chat. WHY DON`T have a talk box as in WOW over your head if you say something. If you are in guildchat you can`t see what others say... ETC ETC. One GREAT thing is the implented voice in the game however... I DON`T SEE HOW SOME STUFF ISN`T IN THIS SUPERGRAPHICAL GAME. All these dungeons... no wilderness... PLZ... No I don`t want to rant... I have quit this game. Maybe in the future I`ll be back. But I doubt it.... BYE ALL. HAVE A FUN TIME SLASHING IN THE AIR AT THE TAVERNS!!!

Thandar, are you sure its not you who doesn't know what roleplaying is?
roleplaying isn't having your swords appear on your avatar when you sheathe them
roleplaying isn't being forced by the game system to act a certain way
roleplaying isn't having multiple dance routines
roleplaying isn't having multiple emotion choices which you can choose from, which change how your avatar interacts with the world
these things are all gimicks, they might be nice, but they are not esential to the game. All the tools you need to be able to roleplay are already in the game and if you are too lazy to use them, then i'm sorry its your problem.
I like to roleplay, but i also llike the casual fun of simply doing a dungeon crawl with some friends.
and just so you know, before you start scream he's no roleplayer, he doesn't even know what a d20 is. I have spent several years playing a WoD based IRC RP channel, to the point i was made an op in the channel (which is kinda the equivilent to a Story Teller). I also played DnD PnP through several campaigns with my housemates at university (where just for the record i studied Games Computing (software development). I ran a Deadlands campaign, and we started a shadow run and did a few missions.
Hmmm i guess for someone who apparently isn't a roleplayer i do quite a bit of roleplaying.
