Retro consoles

What do all you people out there think is the ultimate retro console?

Personally i couldnt ever get enough of the sega mega drive (or genesis for the yanks) with hundreds upon hundreds of classic games, literally to many to mention; it certainly was the king of consoles in its time. (Where did it go wrong sega? :( ) I still even get it out occasionally now just to relive the excellent memories of games like Streets of Rage 2. :rolleyes:

Not anymore as I can see. Yeah sega was the best,as it was the first console to use modern day disks...ah Sega Rally 2 how bad you were...0 kp/h to 200(yes 200) kp/h in 3 seconds!:confused:

Ah, I remember it well, back in the day when the console war was between Nintendo and Sega.

I was one who went with Nintendo, and have never owned (although I have played on) a console from Sega.

Therefore, I must say, IMO, the ultimate retro console is the SNES.

Super Mario Kart being a classic - although I can't seem to remember anymore 'classic' games on the SNES. :confused:
But that's a result of my mind being corrupted by the evil that is university; which is a story for another time . . . :D

I can't actually remember anyone that I know who owned both the SNES and Mega Drive; so I guess it's one of those things where people were effectively 'signing' their allegiance to one of the consoles.

I had the Sega and at the time I liked it, the old genesis and then the add on thingy:lol, I was a big sonic addict.
Still now I would say the SNES because I love RPG's and there were lots of great ones for that system.

SNES was indeed good but sega was generally better, although as deliadee says there were more rpgs on snes...
anyone notice how the major console battle used to be between sega and nintendo, and now both the 'experienced' games makers have been replaced by microsoft and sony - crazy :confused:

I bought a Megadrive the day it came out, and bought an imported Super Famicom from Japan, complete with a copy of Super R Type and Final Fight.

I thought games on the Megadrive were fun, but too many were able to be completed in 20 minutes. Games like Revenge of Shinobi and Golden Axe were my faves, later games just seemed to get easier and easier though.

SNES games always seemed tougher and bigger somehow, Mario Kart is still an awesome game, as is Super Metroid and Super Mario World. I liked Sonic a lot, but Mario held my interest for a lot longer.

Even now, I have one Sega Console and one Nintendo one (Dreamcast and Gamecube) Only really bought the DC for Shenmue 1&2 and Soul Calibur. Gamecube I bought after I played Super Smash Bros Melee after playing it in a shop with a friend from work. We both fell about laughing when Kirby ate Giant Donkey Kong!

I would still own both SNES and Megadrive consoles at the drop of a hat.

You have to remember that the megadrive is quite a bit older than the snes, kind of like the dreamcast to the gamecube (though not a much) and there was very little saving scope on megadrive so games had to be able to be completed in one sitting, but most i feel were good for at least an hour or 2. With the snes and as you say super mario, the ability to svae the game meant that the game could be alot longer

dreamcast is also great many good games, i would suggest looking on places like ebay and getting some games for a bargain cos alot of them are sheer classics (i.e samba de amigo) i now own about 75 games for my dreamcast and still go back and play on it alot. gamecube however just seemed a bit pointless to me, seeing as how its rubbish and a lot of publishers make games for playstation and xbox only now, leaving gamecube with fewer great games...
