View Full Version : Unrealistic Lap Times

Hi all and thanks on the recent thoughts and feed back re an "Offshoot to v8supercars"

On a totally different subject I went and had a look at the supposed hall of fame in particular times ran on the v8supercars circuits.
I've found that some jerks are posting lap time up to 30seconds quicker than what I can do at Bathurst?? Has anyone seen this?
I'm of the understanding that the cheat codes only work in simulator race mode and not in time trial so the question begs...how on earth are they being allowed to post such times, which inevidently leaves one somewhat disheartened to bother to post a hot lap as you'd be lucky to crack the top 100.
For the record I've posted at Bathurst in a Shell Helix BA Falcon. 1.47.27.

Look forward to your comments.

On the PC version the fastest times are around the 1:40 for Bathurst (Sim mode). I Regularly get 1:41, mainly racing online due to the advantage of slip stream.

Thanks Venom CV8 for the info...suprised nonetheless that race mode ie drafting is allowed with the pc etc to be submitted as a time. I thought you needed a code after your time trial to submit to make it legit... there've got times of 1.17s for Bathurst for the v8's.. so it still begs the question I guess. The should be catagories from mode and console used.

Second to speaking of times..pity codemaster could of got truer to the 2.10s - 2.08's that they can run in reality and on qualifying or time trial...making it near impossible to get to Murphy's 2.06 last year instead of banging out a time around 20 seconds under it.

Cheers,

Yeah lap times are not realistic but maybe they are for pro sim (I never play Pro sim)?
1:17 for Bathurst is certainly not possible without a hack car. ;)
Apparently the hall of fame is for PS2 version of the game. My times are posted here (http://www.team-nbw.co.uk/) for the PC version.

All lap times will be unrealistic, the physics are unrealistic,
the circuits are way off from reality, just look at Bathurst
and how high the hills/crests are, it's the worst rendition of
the track on PC so far, Bathurst in RD1 was way better and
so were the cars. The only thing RD2 has over RD1 is graphics.

I think RD2 was better in Cars Tracks etc.

But the track have so many bumbs.

V8RD2=CMR2005. Bathurst. The bumbs are SO HUGE totally unreaistic, yes.

Lucky I borrowed mine (nothing against Codies)

I have to agree

1:17 arouund bathurst is impossible even in a formula one car.

My best on Ps2 btw is 1:47 sumthin in Murphs VX Comm

And if you ask me any time around Bathurst that is not in a V8 does not count. As these cars are the benchmark of Bathurst.

Just to add in some pro sim data, we've been doing PS2 pro sim weekly enduros since around january, and around bathurst we are now down to the 1.57 - 58 mark with the odd freak lap in the 56's.

Still a good 10 seconds faster than the race pace in the real V8 series at bathurst, but a little closer to reality than sim mode times.

cheers.

Could the people posting laps in the 1 17 area be using the double engine power cheat?

If thats alright. i'm new so i dont no if i'm in the right thead to ask these questions, but if anyone can help, that would be great. & those lap times on Bathhurst i wont believe till i see it. I mean 1:34, thats crazy. Its just not possable on the ps2, thats 10 seconds off my time which i thought 1:44 was a good time, thats without setting my car up. Anyway, hope someone can help out, cause i'm dieing to race people online.

ok firstly for PS2 v8's online you will need a broadband connection. The faster the better if you want to host rooms. But any decent adsl connection will allow you to play no worries. A cable connection is always a good option for gaming if you can get one.

Secondly you need to make sure that your ps2 has the ethernet bolt on if you have an old one. If you have a newer slimline ps2 then it has the ethernet card built in. You should be able to buy a ps2 ethernet card for the old one at Harvey Norman or EB if you are in Australia, but you can get them no worries from alot of places.

Next, best to have a router so you can have your pc and ps2 both running on your connection. I use a dlink router, no drama's, just had to find the specific ps2 setup on a google search, half an hour and it was ready to go.

Once online with the ps2, you have to register your details at central station (pS2 online disk, comes with ethernet card), and badda boom badda bing after creating a handle on v8's and logging in, your are playing V8's online.

Hope that helps ya out!

cheers mate,

No worries mate, any time!

Racing online is way better, you do have to put up with race wrecking idiots in public rooms every so often, but a good host will ban them from the room.

If you are really into racing, then you'll meet up with like minded people online, and set up locked rooms where the racing is minus the idiot element.

Still lots of people playing PS2 V82 online, and once you play against people online, you'll never play against ai on the game again!!

Also a very critcal must for v8's online is a PS2 usb headset. They are fairly pricey, around 60 70 bucks unfortunately, but voice comms works well, and is really a must if you want to do some serious racing online.

Comms are also great to have a good ol yarn while your racing too, brings the whole world into your lounge room. The gamespy server is worldwide, so depending on what time of day you go on, you could be racing people from Aus / NZ, Europe, or US / Canada. Brush up on your langauge skills!

ok now i have done low 1:42 which is still ridiculously fast for bathurst in a V8 Supercar,

i checked out of interest the hall of fame btw the fasted in there 1:36 sumthin
i had to wonder when i saw that how many corners were cut and walls were hit during that lap?

In my opinion a fast lap is one where you drive according to the rules ( around corners not thru them ) and one where you dont touch a single wall.

But thats just me. I have a strong sense of race craft, others like to go flat out without braking ( other than the car itself... but then thats breaking... ) i have no respect for these people.

How could Codemasters have missed a plainly obvious thing with the V8s... everyone gets all excited when someone hits 300 at Mt Panorama but we can get up to 325 easily. This could explain why the cars get airbourne where they shouldnt and times are so quick.... its not that the physics are bad ( i actually think they are quite good ) its that the cars go too bloody fast.

They accelerate too quickly and top speeds are way too high... and i have a feeling that they are too light.
