View Full Version : Back to Group C???
Just a query for all V8 race fans, would you like to see a return to the good old days of the big bangers (group C). Considering after this month niether Ford or Holden will have a 5-litre V8 in their lineups, Could there be an improved production category again. Reading about the next GT falcon got me thinking about this. The modern day V8 Supercars are nothing like the road cars they are supposed to represent other than body shape, and after "Project Blueprint" is introduced next year there will be less in common.
Im not a fan of project blueprint because this will make the V8s more like the Transam series in the states where the only differences between the cars are the body shells and the engine blocks. You cant really say that they are true fords or holdens but hybrids of both.

AVESCO really has to do something about the formula, rising costs, worse racing, dropping crowds...
I would like to see the V8s go to a similar spec to the FutureTourers were, Cheap (relativly), not too much aero aids and best of all, good racing :)
G'dday folks,
I have memories of the last group c race at bathurst..beautiful.
These V8 are nothing but one step away from nascar...variety thats what we need, not this sanitised rubbish that is V8 Supercars that is being touted of late. Especially with mega-mouth cocherane.....deadset fool..'yeah i know ya can love him or hate him,,,,,i accept the latter...
Something really needs to be done. I think this blueprint thingy that is being tuned up for next year s only going to make HRT stronger than it is already and make both vehicles 'just a fascade'....
Back to group c to allow some variety, and then put a ceiling on costs somehow....( I still believe there is something 'dodgy' with the inlet manifold and injection 'system' incl. the 'little black box' that resides in the HRT & TWR cars....very little wheel spin....)
regards
Skids....
P.S. Enjoyed the Sandown 500 incl. the V8 BRutes
;) :D
My favourite Group C racers was the True Blue XD falcon, even though I wasn't born at the time. I just think this project blueprint is not what the category is about, Sure it is meant to be a parity formula but making the cars the similar mechanically only means that one car will enjoy the combination more than the other one. But the thing is costs, TWR spend the most money of any team, what Grech was saying about Ford spending more money than them was correct but Ford is spreading out that spending across its entire teams, they are spending all there money on themselves. With Prodrive provisding some information next year this could be rectified.
I think the biggest thing why HRT are so much better than anyother team is because they had a current model racer a good 6 months before anyone else (bar Perkins) where as the Ford and rest of the holden teams had to wait till 1999 to get the current model and I think that extra 6 months back then is still having an impact. With the introduction of the new models next year this may all change, its the only chance it will.
