Sweet! That also means I've been playing Codies games for 18 years. I was in year 6 in school at the time. BMX Sim was always one of my favs back then.

For those of us old enough, post what you were doing at the time (even if you were in the womb :D).

I played this game for hours on end!

Does anyone remember a game called V8 ??

It was one of the first games I remember to have half decent speech and I remember it not being too easy back then.

Anybody having trouble running BMX Simulator on Win XP ??
Really sluggish. Music corrects when the about tab is clicked on.
Tried XP compat modes but no difference.

Yeah that's Twin Turbo V8, my tape's at home somewhere ;) It was very much like Outrun if I remember rightly. Like you say, at the time the speech was pretty impressive. The only other game I'd heard 'say' very much was International Karate.

Ah, I think you're referring to "The Last V8", which was programmed by David and Richard Darling and was the first release on MAD (Mastertronic's Added Dimension)

The Commodore 64 version of the game featured speech, namely: "V8: return to base immediately" and "Caution: avoid radioactive zones".

Incidentally, later on Mastertronic released a Commodore 128 disk only version (I have that disk, just not a C128 to play it on!) which not only had an extra mission, but completely different speech as well:

"Carry out your orders. Go - at once"
"Keep an eye on the instruments, and avoid the radiation", and:
"You have less than two minutes to get to the city".

The extra level on the C128 version also looked exactly the same as one of the levels on Red Max (an early Codemasters release) - which looked the same as The Last V8, but it was on a bike instead.

Unfortunately, a rather nasty bug in most releases of the game corrupted Rob Hubbard's excellent soundtrack so it was unlistenable after 45 seconds.

The V8 also exists in the ZX Spectrum version.
